TX AG to WH: We Will Not Delay DACA Lawsuit

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said yesterday that Texas and the nine other states will not delay the Sept. 5 deadline for Pres. Trump to end DACA. If the administration continues to issue work permits under DACA the 10 states will amend their current DAPA case to include DACA.

LA Company Pays Over $100,000 to American Workers in Discrimination Settlement

The Dept. of Justice announced that Barrios Street Realty Inc. has paid around $108,000 to 12 U.S. workers as part of their settlement agreement. The settlement is an effort to resolve claims that the Louisiana based company gave preference to foreign H-2B workers and discriminated against Americans workers.

Trump Admin. Considering Cuts to J-1 Summer Work Visas

The Trump administration is considering reductions in the J-1 visa category, specifically the summer work and travel program. The program has been criticized by both Democrats and Republicans for increasing competition for American workers, especially teenagers, and this category’s high visa overstay rate.

Trump Admin. Issues Visa Sanctions on 4 Recalcitrant Countries

DHS and the State Department have confirmed that they have issued visa sanctions against four countries that have refused accept back their foreign nationals that have been ordered deported from the U.S. The administration declined to name the four recalcitrant countries but sources claim they are Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

Mass. Police Chiefs Support Bill to Honor ICE Detainers

The Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and the Major City Police Chiefs Association sent a letter to state legislators asking them to support Gov. Charlie Baker’s “commonsense” bill that would allow the police to honor ICE detainer requests. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled last month that holding people beyond their jail sentence, even for an ICE detainer, violated state law.

Pew Study on H-1B Visa Salaries Flawed

In a recent study the Pew Research Center said that according to their findings, employers planned in FY16 on paying foreign H-1B visa workers higher salaries than those earned by Americans in similar fields. However, other experts have said that the methods used are flawed and, “not worthy of Pew or experienced researchers to put out”.

Denver Strengthens Sanctuary City Policy

The Denver City Council and Mayor Michael Hancock have proposed a new ordinance which would further limit cooperation between Denver local law enforcement and ICE. The sanctuary city currently does not honor ICE detainer requests and this new policy would limit ICE’s ability to work within Denver’s local jails to interview and apprehend criminal illegal aliens.

By a more than 4-to-1 margin, West Virginians say they want legal immigration -- that has been averaging around one million a year -- reduced to a half-million or less. That is the preference of nearly all demographic groups, West Virginia’s Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Union Households, conservatives, liberals, moderates, Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestants and those of other religions and no religion, according to a survey conducted by Pulse Opinion Research of 1,000 West Virginians likely to vote in next year's midterm congressional elections.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
