Rep. Johnson of Illinois Signs SAVE Act Discharge Petition

On June 25, Rep. Timothy Johnson (R-Ill.) signed the Discharge Petition for the SAVE Act. This brings the total number of discharge petition signers to 190, just 28 shy of the 218 needed to force a floor vote on the bill. Rep. Johnson has a career "B" grade from Americans for Better Immigration.

Rep. Chris Cannon (R - Utah) was defeated in the Republican primary in Utah's 3rd district. While considered a staunch conservative on many issues, Rep. Cannon is known for being pro-immigration and has sponsored many bills to allow more foreign workers to enter the United States. Americans for Better Immigration gives Rep. Supreme Court Denies Fence Lawsuit

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday refused to hear a lawsuit brought by environmental groups challenging the Bush administration's ability to expedite construction of a section of border fence near Naco, Arizona. Defenders of Wildlife and the Sierra Club claimed the Administration’s waiver of 19 environmental laws was an unconstitutional repeal of federal laws.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that deportable illegal aliens can back out of their agreement to voluntarily depart the country and get another opportunity to make the case to immigration officials that they should be allowed to adjust their status.

Supreme Court to Decide if Illegal Aliens can Receive In-state Tuition

Several states, including California, Texas, and Kansas, currently allow illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition. However, the same privilege is not granted to legal Americans from out-of-state. This violates the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which requires that any state that gives in-state tuition to illegal aliens must give the same benefits to out-of-state students.

Rasmussen Poll Shows Americans Angry at Government's Refusal to Fix Illegal Immigration Problem

A June 13 Rasmussen poll shows that Americans are still mad at Congress's failure to reform America's immigration system. The poll shows that 1/3 of all Americans are mad about illegal immigration, but Americans blame Washington and not the illegal aliens. Eighty-three percent of those angry about immigration blame the federal government. Thirty-two percent of those polled expressed "anger" with the situation, while an additional twenty-seven percent expressed frustration with the government's inaction.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
