Gov. Brown Signs Bill Making California a 'Sanctuary State'

Gov. Jerry Brown signed SB54 into law on Thursday, which places limitations on California’s state and local law enforcement from enforcing federal immigration laws and cooperating with ICE. The sanctuary state bill will take effect starting Jan. 1, 2018.

DOJ: Immigration Judge Surge Reduced Nationwide Caseload

The Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) released statistics this week that showed that the increase of immigration judges to DHS detention centers had a “positive net effect on the nationwide caseload”. Pres. Trump’s January executive called on Attorney General Sessions to temporarily reassign immigration judges in an effort to reduce the immigration court backlog.

Rep. Smith: Mandatory E-Verify Would Protect American Workers and Businesses

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) wrote an op-ed in The Hill about his bill The Legal Workforce Act that would mandate E-Verify for all employers and turn off the jobs magnet for illegal aliens. House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) have co-sponsored the bill and it is scheduled for markup by the House Judiciary Committee today.

Ag Bill Would Expand Visa Program to Dairy & Meat and Seafood Processors

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) introduced the Agricultural Guestworker Act or AG Act this week, which would replace the existing, H-2A temporary guest-worker visa program with a new H-2C temporary guest-worker visa. The H-2C visa would expand the types of jobs that foreign workers could perform under the visa, adding both dairy workers and meat and seafood processors to the program.

DOJ to Sue Colorado Corporation for Discriminating Against American Workers

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Dept. of Justice will file a lawsuit against Crop Production Services, Inc. for violating the Immigration and Nationality Act by discriminating against American workers. This will be the first lawsuit based on Pres. Trump’s ‘Buy American, Hire American’ executive order that he signed in April.

Pres. Trump Sets Refugee Cap at 45,000 for FY18

Last night the Trump administration submitted its report to Congress that will set the refugee cap for FY 2018 to 45,000, a drastic decline from the 85,000 Pres. Obama set in FY16. Under the Refugee Act of 1980 the president has the power to set the refugee admissions cap and this is the lowest cap since the program began in 1975.

Illegal Border Crossings Surge with Talk of Amnesty

After reaching a 17- year low in April border apprehensions have made a 60% increase over the summer, in opposition to historic trends that usually see a reduction in the late summer months. This increase comes as talks about granting amnesty for Dreamers has made national headlines.

Pew: 71% of 'Dreamers' are 21 or over

According to the Pew Research Center’s analysis of USCIS’ latest report, 71% of those who have received the DACA amnesty are 21 years of age or older. This means that most of the “Dreamers” are adults who are currently competing with American workers for jobs.

Sens. Tillis, Lankford, & Hatch Introduce Amnesty-Only Dream Act

Republican Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.), James Lankford (Okla.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah) introduced the Succeed Act, which would grant amnesty to millions of young illegal aliens. While the Senators claim the bill addresses Pres. Trump's concern with chain migration, it would only prevent the amnestied illegal aliens from sponsoring family members while they hold conditional legal permanent residence.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
