NumbersUSA lost a great champion for American workers Tuesday night when Rep. Dave Brat was narrowly defeated by Democratic challenger Abigail Spanberger. (We'll have more on her in a later post.) But with most of the House races settled, we can proudly announce that nearly all of the NumbersUSA A+ rated Members who ran for re-election will return to Congress in 2019.
Since it was reported yesterday morning that Pres. Trump plans to end the practice of granting automatic citizenship to all children born in the United States regardless of the parents' immigration status, most, if not all, mainstream publications have run op-eds explaining why such a move would be unconstitutional. But the writers of these op-eds are missing (or intentionally avoiding) the ways that Pres. Trump could end Birthright Citizenship.
In Donald Trump's run for the White House, he promised bold changes on immigration. Those changes, if enacted, would boost American workers and put the country on a more sustainable path by reducing legal immigration and deterring illegal immigration. No person in the Administration has done more to advance Pres. Trump's immigration agenda than Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
In its eagerness to attack Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Shareblue Media has a new website post that encourages Central American parents to take their children on the perilous journey through Mexico to illegally cross the U.S. border. The attack includes outlandish claims and makes no attempt at offering a solution to discourage illegal border crossers from placing their children's lives under the care of the murderous, transnational drug cartels that control much of the southern border.
When news first broke of the arrest of illegal alien Cristhian Rivera, it was reported that his employer, Yarrabee Farms in Brooklyn, Iowa, had used E-Verify to check if he was eligible to work in the United States. The farm's owner has since backtracked and that the company did not run Rivera through E-Verify. But that initial claim called into question the effectiveness of E-Verify and its ability to deter illegal immigration.
During yesterday's committee mark-up of the Homeland Security Appropriations bill, Reps. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) and Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.) allowed for the passage of several amendments that would undermine the Trump Administration's immigration enforcement efforts and increase foreign-worker competition for vulnerable American workers.
The draft text for House Speaker Paul Ryan's "compromise" bill is out, and it's as bad as we feared. Speaker Ryan's amnesty plan follows the same playbook that the Gang of 8 followed, granting an immediate and permanent amnesty to at least 1.8 million illegal aliens with only promises of future enforcement.
DHS released border apprehension numbers for the month of May, and the numbers aren't good. Specifically, the release shows huge spikes in the number of unaccompanied children and family units attempting to cross the border illegally. Pres. Trump's tough talk on enforcement was able to slow the surge over his first year in office, but in year two, word has spread across the globe that his hands are tied when it comes to dealing with illegal border crossers unless Congress makes changes to existing law.
