Having worked in Oregon politics for a number of years, I was quite surprised to see a new study that suggested the state doesn't have enough workers -- until I saw who paid for the study. The Coalition for a Working Oregon, an organization whose members include Oregon's Farm Bureau and Restaurant Association, as well as Immigration Works USA and Essential Workers Immigration Coalition, commissioned a study on what would happen to Oregon’s economy should the new “no-match” rule be implemented.

Just back from my first trip to the Berkshires (in western Massachusetts) where the affluent of the East Coast megalopolises like to summer and play, and I was just stunned to see nearly every visible job filled with an English-speaking American.

Friends, it is essential that the E-Verify program be re-authorized immediately and without any strings that might later strangle it.

Earlier today, there were signs that supporters of illegal foreign workers were trying to attach just those kinds of strings, and we're happy to report that negotiations seem to be back on track for a clean re-authorization.

Fate of local immigration enforcement uncertain as we attempt to translate what House approps panel did

I wish I could tell you precisely what Rep. Price (D-N.C.) and his U.S. House Appropriations Committee did to local immigration enforcement last week. Price and his staff have been so clever in their writing of the DHS spending bill that both NumbersUSA analysts and federal agencies are still attempting to figure out precisely what the House Appropriations Committee last week did. A week later, still nothing definitive.

A Lot of Effort to Hide True Intent

Rep. Cannon Finally Fails To Hide Amnesty Record

Rep. Chris Cannon -- who lost in a 60%-40% Primary election landslide yesterday -- had survived several previous Primary challenges by fooling enough people into believing that he was not really an amnesty champion.

His loss should strike some fear into the 362 Members of Congress (68%) who have Amnesty grades of D+ or worse but who nearly all claim to voters that they do NOT support amnesties for illegal aliens.

U.S. House appropriators are deep in internal discussions over whether to praise (and fund) current enforcement efforts that are proving most effective in arresting illegal aliens and deterring future illegal immigration. Postponement of markup today on a DHS spending bill is probably a good sign.

The House Appropriations Committee has postponed its Wednesday afternoon (June 18) consideration of the DHS spending bill that will determine funding levels for immigration enforcement next year.

Congressional appropriators start deciding tomorrow (June 18) whether to provide the dollars to continue the tightening vise on illegal immigrants in local communities. Powerful special interests are insisting on a withdrawal of funding for programs like 287(g) that are resulting in snowballing arrests and removals.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
