America's service industry lost another 273,000 jobs in December, but a major union leader in the industry renewed his call for permanently tying up 7 million jobs (largely service jobs) with the illegal aliens who now hold them. At the same time, other national amnesty leaders yesterday accused NumbersUSA of ugly, divisive politics for our call to suspend most foreign-labor importation while 10 million unemployed Americans look for jobs.

A national crisis requires bold action. NumbersUSA today urged President-Elect Obama to immediately suspend most importation of foreign workers to give relief to the American workers who will be left without a job if the importation continues. Unlike all other emergency recommendations, our call to action would not cost hundreds of billions of dollars. In fact, it would cost almost nothing.

Paul Krugman and Illegal Immigration: Even a Nobel Laureate Can Be Wrong

Paul Krugman won the Nobel Prize for economics in 2008. But on the subject of illegal immigration, he is mistaken. He compared the current situation in the United States to that of his Jewish grandfather who first came to America near the turn of the century. But escaping from massacres is far different than seeking higher wages.

We can track them even though the chambers of Congress are empty on this Christmas Eve. We know which state congressional delegations are the aspiring Scrooges by what they left behind -- a clear trail of votes and co-sponsorships making it easy for us to give out our awards for the Naughtiest Congressional Delegations (and also the NICEST!) when it comes to American workers who are unemployed -- or fear they soon will be. And the winners are . . .

WHAT'S WRONG WITH RHODE ISLAND? 2nd worst economy allows its Members of Congress to massively import workers

News stories are focusing on the nation's second-highest unemployment rate and 11 straight months of job losses in Rhode Island. But I focus on the fact that the state's two Senators and two U.S. Representatives almost invariably act to increase the importation of foreign workers and to reward illegal workers. Why do Rhode Island's citizens allow that to happen?

NumbersUSA has thousands of members who are too old to ever enjoy the better American future for which they fight. And, yet, fight they do with all their heart -- none more so than Alan Kuper, 84, of Cleveland. The day before he died of stomach cancer last weekend, he sent out an email to hundreds of his friends calling for more activism in his triple causes of U.S. population stabilization, immigration reduction, and environmental sustainability.

The latest estimates show that more than 600,000 illegal aliens are living on the backs of Illinois taxpayers. And Gov. Rod Blagojevich did everything he could to make them feel more at home in the Prairie State. From in-state tuition to driver's licenses, Blago tried to assimilate illegal aliens into the state he governed.

Sen. Lugar Thinks His Nightmare Amnesty Can Pass In New Year (will he eliminate Chain Migration first?)

A Fort Wayne, Ind., paper says Sen. Lugar thinks Americans will be so distracted by the bad economy that he will be able to slip the DREAM Act amnesty through the Senate this next year. It is always sad when a truly distinguished statesman, with a record of level-headed leadership, embarrasses himself with outlandish open-borders positions, but it happens all the time. Let me tell you why Lugar's dream of amnesty for illegal-alien teenagers is an attack on American workers.

President-elect Obama has requested that Congress have a fiscal stimulus package waiting on his desk for his signature when he takes office on January 20. The stimulus is projected to be up to $700 billion with the aim of creating 2.5 million jobs over 2 years. That is $280,000 per job, or $140 billion per each 500,000 jobs created.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
