A Year Later, Deception Allows Most Border Surge Minors to Remain

At a Senate hearing this week an Obama Administration official said that nine out of 10 unaccompanied alien children (UACs) who crossed the border illegally during the border surge were placed with family members or friends in the United States. The vast majority of these minors were never eligible for placement, however, because the law Obama used to shield them from deportation defines a UAC as an illegal-alien minor without a parent or legal guardian in the U.S.

TPA 'Safeguards' Won't Protect American Workers

Proponents of Trade Promotion Authority legislation say built-in “safeguards” will allow Congress to protect American workers from the adverse impacts of immigration provisions in trade deals. But they know these safeguards are mere window dressing when a president refuses to be bound by the law and has latitude under a “living agreement” such as the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) to change the deal without further congressional approval.

Why President Obama’s Executive Amnesties Must be Defeated

If you listen to President Obama and his supporters – most notably, main stream media correspondents – his executive amnesties are needed to prevent the deportation of non-priority illegal aliens. But as the term “non-priority” suggests, Obama had already made these illegal aliens safe from deportation. His real goal is to give them work permits, irrespective of how it endangers American workers or the constitutional underpinnings of the presidency itself. And that's why he must be stopped.

President Obama’s plan for dealing with border surge aliens, which emphasizes the relocation and care of illegal border crossers over their immediate deportation, has Democrats and Republicans in Congress scrambling to develop legislation before the summer recess. But their differing plans make legislative action unlikely and give Obama cover for not doing what he should do - deport the aliens required under current law.

Many bloggers and other writers on the Right have been calling for the deportation of recent illegal border crossers. That view is underlined by a recent poll showing that three in five Americans believe surge aliens "should be ordered to leave the U.S.” Now we’re beginning to see some writers on the Left call for the same thing. Take blogger Keli Goff, a strong supporter of President Obama who has advocated amnesty for so-called Dreamers. She argues deportation is necessary to protect vulnerable Americans.

If Illegal Aliens are Already Citizens, then Joe Biden is Already President

Vice President and potential presidential candidate Joe Biden gave a speech last week in which he said the 11 million illegal aliens in the United States “are already Americans.” Famous for pandering to audiences and, uh, stretching the truth, Biden also has been a champion for causes irrespective of whether they are consistent with U.S. laws or the Constitution. So if he’s misguided enough to think illegal aliens are citizens, perhaps one day Biden will dispense with the formalities of an election and declare he’s already president. Or at least the comic-in-chief.

In order to placate illegal-alien advocates who falsely claim the Administration has deported record numbers of illegal aliens, President Obama announced that DHS would review options for making immigration enforcement “more humane.” Translation: they’ll find more ways to ignore the law and make illegal aliens comfortable while the comprehensive amnesty alliance pursues House Republican hold-outs.

As Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans gear up for an internal debate over whether to address immigration in 2014, a new Gallup poll lends support to those who want to delay consideration. The poll found that only three percent of Americans think immigration is the top problem Congress must tackle this year. So why does Boehner consider immigration to be so urgent?

According to a recent Congressional Research Service report, the number of people granted temporary asylum jumped from 13,931 to 36,026 in the last fiscal year. This tripling of claims has lawmakers worried that illegal border crossers, including members of drug cartels, may be filing fraudulent claims to slow their deportation.

Melanie and I joined two local groups in a counter-protest today near the Pro-amnesty “March for Dignity and Respect” on the closed National Mall. Then we headed down to the event organizers claimed would bring in tens of thousands of participants. Even with a top-name band playing – Los Tigres del Norte – they had a few thousand at best.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
