In an outrageous new development, the Obama Administration has started a program to bring the Central American relatives of the illegal aliens it has amnestied (or plans to amnesty) to the United States! Instead of forcing the minors, and near minors, to face the dangerous and expensive trip from Central America on their own (like the 60,000 who came in the 2014 border surge), the federal government will fly them directly to the U.S. courtesy of the American taxpayer.

Goodlatte should get some credit for his emphasis on boosting security inside the country, not just at the border, said Roy Beck, the founder of NumbersUSA, a group that pushes for low immigration levels. He is also right to be skeptical of presidents’ willingness to enforce laws, said Beck.

Goodlatte, however, also endorsed an amnesty and more foreign workers, said Beck. “He didn’t show any concern for American workers and the reason you have immigration laws is to protect workers and the unemployed,” Beck said.

The group Numbers USA, which calls for limits on immigration, also grew concerned that Mr. McCarthy might support legislation it considered to be amnesty for people who had illegally entered the country. It directed its members to phone and message Mr. McCarthy's offices, and to drop by his office with material making their case, said Roy Beck, the group's CEO.

This is the time of year when many pro-amnesty advocates in the pulpit and the press misuse the Bible to try to try to advance their cause. This year, churchgoers are fortunate to have access to a much different explanation of scripture, thanks to the emergence of a group called Evangelicals for Biblical Immigration and to a fascinating panel recently sponsored by the Heritage Foundation to inform congressional staffers and the media.

Some argue that evangelical leaders are out of step with their congregations on immigration. A recent poll of likely evangelical Republican voters released by NumbersUSA, which endorses lower immigration levels, found that 63 percent of respondents "strongly oppose" a bill described as giving "work permits to an estimated 7 million illegal immigrant workers." Pulse Opinion Research conducted the poll.

Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, a group that helped defeat a similar immigration effort in 2007 and is fighting hard against this year's efforts, said Boehner and other Republican leaders are still looking for ways to pass some kind of immigration overhaul. He said they feel a political need to do so to win over the ever-growing Hispanic electorate.

Opponents of comprehensive immigration legislation welcomed Boehner's words and the latest development.

"Friends, take a moment to celebrate what I call a `step victory,'" Roy Beck of NumbersUSA said in a note to followers that warned that the threat was not over.

A one-page memo produced this week by the limited immigration group NumbersUSA argues that the House’s border security bill actually weakens current law and could act as a shield to allow Republicans to vote for “amnesty.”

In the document NumbersUSA compares provisions in the House’s border bill with provisions in the Secure Fence Act of 2006 and the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorism.

Polling data is mixed on that score. On one hand, data from the right leaning "immigration reduction" organization, Numbers USA, suggests that 46% of Republican evangelicals say they would deport most undocumented immigrants. Another 32% say they would deport some, but "ensure no jobs or assistance for the rest."http://swampland.time.com/2013/10/22/evangelicals-battle-over-biblical-immigration/#ixzz2iXAzUQOS

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
