The Trump Administration announced an interim final rule that strengthens the H-1B program in an effort to protect U.S. workers, restore the program to its intended purpose and ensure that petitions are approved only for qualified employers and foreign workers.

In his first sit-down interview since taking over DHS, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf discussed the dangers of sanctuary cities, border wall construction and new plans to combat the gangs that control the flow of illegal migrants across the border. Wolf spoke to Fox News during a visit to the Texas-Mexico border.

Indian Firm Settles Visa-Fraud Allegations

Mu Sigma, an Indian data analytics firm based in Chicago, agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle allegations that it committed visa fraud and induced aliens to enter and remain in the U.S. A government investigation revealed the firm had illegally circumvented H-1B visa regulations by actively employing about 400 B1 (business visitor) visa holders under contract in the U.S.

SCOTUS Refuses to Expedite DACA Decision

Just days after the Trump Administration petitioned the Supreme Court to fast track a case involving the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) amnesty, the justices turned down the request without comment. The high court could still take up the case in 2020 after a lower court rules or could consider related cases on appeal.

House Republicans: DHS Failed to Implement Available Border Fixes

A group of House Republicans wrote acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan to criticize DHS' failure to adopt border security fixes that are available without additional congressional action. They noted the president has shown leadership on the issue but DHS lacks "the same manner of enthusiasm for fixing this crisis."

House Committee Passes Three Amnesty Bills

The House Judiciary Committee yesterday passed two bills that would legalize so-called Dreamers and aliens with Temporary Protected Status or Deferred Enforcement Departure status. A third approved bill would provide Temporary Protected Status to Venezuelans in the U.S. illegally or preparing to migrate.

Report: President May Invoke Insurrection Act to Remove Illegal Aliens

The Daily Caller spoke to multiple senior Administration officials who said President Trump is planning to use the Insurrection Act of 1807 to remove illegal aliens from the United States. The Act was last used by President George H.W. Bush to control the 1992 Los Angeles riots. President Dwight Eisenhower also used the Act in 1957 to desegregate schools in the south.

President Outlines New Immigration Plan

The president today unveiled his plan for shoring up border security, overhauling the legal immigration system and cracking down on asylum fraud. The proposal would end chain migration and set up a points-based system that favors high-skilled workers. It does not deal with those already in the country illegally, including those who arrived as children.

Study: Voluntary Departures Rising Dramatically

According to a study by The Marshall Project, the number of voluntary departures have “soared” since the election of President Trump. The study's authors say this is a signal that “[m]ore people are considering leaving the U.S., rather than being stuck in detention or taking on a lengthy legal battle with little hope of success.”

New Program Will Exempt Police From Sanctuary-Detainer Restrictions

Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced a new program designed for local law-enforcement agencies that want to honor immigration detainers but are prohibited from doing so under state and/or local sanctuary policies. According to a press release, ICE created the Warrant Service Officer (WSO) program at the request of the National Sheriffs' Association and the Major County Sheriffs of America.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
