It is troubling that our immigration policies over the past decades have helped contribute to widening economic gaps for those without college degrees.
At the start of the Covid pandemic, a significant portion of Americans without college degrees became lauded as "essential workers."
Yet, the interests of these working-class, essential workers (many of whom are immigrants themselves) continue to be ignored and devalued by the makers of immigration policies who steadily lowered their wages and their labor participation rates by bringing in millions of legal and illegal workers to compete for their jobs.
It does not make any sense for a country to move its essential workers to the sideline while bringing in citizens of other countries to fill their essential jobs.
I urge you to value our essential workers by supporting policies that tighten foreign-worker importation and invest in our working class.
