In "Labor Unions Move To Protect Immigrants, Regardless Of Legal Status" Esther Yu-Hsi Lee of ThinkProgress writes:

"For a large part of their history, labor unions cast a wary eye on immigrant workers, worried that foreign workers would hurt the leveraging power for members. But with a receding membership in recent times, unions are aggressively targeting the 22 million immigrant workers in the country, regardless of legal status, to join their ranks. Some immigrants are especially eager to join unions because many who fear deportation believe that it would improve workplace conditions without retribution. And unions are taking immigrant needs straight to the bargaining table."

Harry Reid supports Obama's executive amnesty that grants work permits to millions of illegal aliens. This is a far cry from what he said in 1993, when he declared "no sane country" would reward illegal aliens when he introduced a bill to end birthright citizenship.

The Center for Immigration Studies published online for the first time an evaluation of the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), the large-scale amnesty Congress passed in 1986. The publication contains a new foreword by one of the original authors that compares the IRCA amnesty to President Obama’s unilateral executive amnesties. The author, David North, suggests IRCA’s extensive fraud will repeat under Obama’s executive actions, especially since they do not incorporate IRCA’s minimal fraud protections.

In a court filing Justice Department attorneys informed Judge Andrew Hanen that 100,000 DACA program recipients received extended benefits, including work permits, prior to when the judge issued an injunction halting all program activity. Under prior direct questioning by the judge on the subject benefit issuance, Justice attorneys omitted having issued benefits before DACA’s February 18 start date.

The issue of Immigration came up this weekend as GOP Presidential hopefuls attended a forum focused on agricultural policy. Jeb Bush, Senator Lindsay Graham, Governor Scott Walker, and several other presidential prospects were asked about their views on immigration reform. Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) warned democrats that their support for President Obama's Executive amnesty will undermine the rule of law and they could regret years from now.

“…I’ll make you this promise,” Gowdy warned, “There will come a day where you will cry out for the enforcement of the law. There will come a day when you long for the law to be the foundation of this republic.”

Gowdy made these comments during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Obama’s action.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
