Senate Dems. Demand “Deportation Relief” for 2 Million Illegal Aliens via Executive Action

author Published by Chris Pierce

Upon the failure of their latest amnesty push through the controversial Budget Reconciliation Process, Reuters now reports that Senate Dems. are demanding that President Biden grant “deportation relief” to at least two million illegal aliens via executive action.

Thirty Democrats, led by Senator Robert Menedez, are urging the President to take executive action to grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to illegal aliens from Guatemala and further expand eligibility for illegal aliens from El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. These Democrats argue that these aliens’ home countries are too dangerous to return to.

TPS protects illegal aliens already present in the country from deportation or other forms of immigration enforcement if the Secretary of Homeland Security determines their home countries to be unsafe to return to. Illegal aliens granted TPS are also legally allowed to work in the United States.

Temporary Protected Status typically lasts six to eighteen months and can be renewed indefinitely.

As reported by Reuters, The 30 Senate Democrats wrote in their letter:

It is our assessment that the severe damage caused by back-to-back hurricanes just over one year ago, combined with extreme drought conditions, and the social and economic crises exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, warrant such an action by the administration.

Currently, over 300,000 illegal aliens from El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua already have TPS. However, under the proposal from Senate Democrats, at least another 2 million illegal aliens from the region could become eligible for the program, according to an estimate from the Migration Policy Institute.

The MPI’s estimate, according to Reuters, “did not account for the high volume of border crossings in 2021.”
