Sen. Reid warns: No immigration bill without an amnesty

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to immigration reform in the Senate. Reid told the Las Vegas Sun on Thursday that no bill will be voted on in unless it contains a path to citizenship for the nation’s 11-18 million illegal aliens.”There will be nothing done in my Senate without a pathway to citizenship,” Sen. Reid said.Sen. Reid’s comments are likely directed at some Republican lawmakers who have expressed support for legalizing the nation’s illegal aliens, but not providing a path to citizenship. In December, a pair of out-going Republican Senators John Kyl of Arizona and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas introduced what they called a Republican version of the DREAM Act. The bill would offer legal status to young illegal aliens that meet certain requirements, but never offers them a chance for citizenship.Reid also said that any immigration reform bill should not focus on border security.”We have spent a huge amount of money on border security, and both our northern and southern borders are more secure. … So I think we have about expended our energy on border security,” Reid told the Las Vegas Sun.For more information, see The Hill.
