March to 100 Cosponsors of Chairman Smith’s Legal Workforce Act!

author Published by Chris Chmielenski

A few months ago, the House Judiciary Committee passed Chairman Smith’s Legal Workforce Act (H.R.2885), but in order to get it to the House floor for a vote it needs more cosponsors. Chairman Smith’s bill isn’t being viewed as
all that urgent and it’s behind a long list of other bills that will
fill up this year’s calendar for floor action.

Chairman Smith feels that he needs at least 100 cosponsors to get
the leadership’s attention that this bill needs to be moved up the list. We need your help to urge your Congressman to cosponsor the Legal Workforce Act.What would the Legal Workforce Act do?Require 100% of businesses to use E-Verify for all employers within 2 yearsRequire all federal, state, and local agencies, businesses that contract with the federal or state government, and businesses with more than 10,000 employees to begin using E-Verify within 6 monthsRequire federal, state, and local agencies to run its entire workforce through E-VerifyAllow private business to check all current employees through E-VerifyIncrease employer penalties and fines for knowingly hiring illegal-alien workersRequire the Social Security Admnistration to send no-match letters to employers if a current employee’s name and social security number don’t match in their systemRequire the Social Security Administration to notify owners of a Social Security number if their number is used multiple timesAllows states to use their authority over business licensing to penalize businesses that don’t use E-VerifySee how E-Verify would impact your state
