New data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics last month indicate that the foreign-born population (legal and illegal) in the United States is now 48.4 million, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. This is an increase of 3.4 million since Pres. Biden took office in January 2021. Two million of that increase (58%) is from illegal immigration.

According to CIS:

  • 45.9 million foreign-born are 16 and older; 2.5 million are under the age of 16.
  • Foreign-born workers are up 2.1 million from the pre-COVID level (October 2019).
  • “There is no indication that there are ‘missing’ immigrant workers, as some have suggested,” says CIS director of research Steven Camarota.
  • Those in the country legally account for 3/4 of the total foreign-born population.
