California City Says “No” to Illegal Aliens

author Published by Joe Jenkins

The City Council of Costa Mesa, California, has approved a resolution declaring it would not be a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.  The resolution, proposed by Mayor Allan Mansoor, declares Costa Mesa a ‘Rule of Law City.”  Mansoor said:

The resolution states that Costa Mesa is not a sanctuary city and that it is in fact a rule-of-law city when it comes to support for upholding immigration laws

Mansoor has also proposed forcing employers to use the E-Verify system, verify the immigration status of those seeking business licenses, and determine why police sometimes accept the unofficial matricula consular id card issued by the Mexican government. He also said:

It’s important for the public to know that form of ID is being used and accepted, and it raises questions as to why they don’t have driver’s licenses, a passport or some type of ID that says they have a legal right to work here.

Not everyone, however, is pleased with the decision. Silvia Hernandez, who spoke against the resolution, told the LA Times:

Immigrants are part of America…. We work, pay taxes, go to church and participate in our communities. We need a solution that brings people out of the shadows.
