CA Assemblyman Files for Ballot Initiative to Recall New Legislation

California Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who represents a section just west of Los Angeles, has filed paperwork to initiate a ballot initiative that would recall a bill signed into law last week by Gov. Jerry Brown that allows illegal aliens to receive state funded grants to be used for college tuition.

Last week, Gov. Jerry Brown signed three new immigration bills into law, favoring illegal aliens. In addition to A.B. 131, which allows illegal aliens to apply for grants, Gov. Brown also signed a bill preventing local municipalities from mandating E-Verify and a bill that prohibits police officers from impounding vehicles of unlicensed drivers at checkpoints. Over the past two years, several Orange County municipalities have passed E-Verify laws and other counties, including San Diego, have been looking into passing an ordinance.

Donnelly has set up a website — StopAB131.com —  where citizens who are interested in helping the ballot initiative effort can contact him.

According to the website:

California’s UC and CSU systems are currently facing the most drastic budget cuts that we have seen in a generation — more than $1 billion. At the same time, the state is hiking tuition rates on all students by 10 to 12 percent while students compete in lotteries to get enough classes to graduate. …

The state has told students that it does not have adequate funds to pay for enough classes so they can graduate in four years. Now, California is even actively recruiting out-of-state students to help fill the education budget gap. Still, the Legislature purports to have miraculously found $40 million to fund the dreams of these illegal students, on top of offering them in-state tuition rates.
