On Tuesday, President Biden used his State of the Union address to double down on his calls for Congress to pass a massive amnesty for illegal aliens while misleadingly championing a recent drop in specific migrant numbers crossing the border despite back-to-back record-breaking yearly highs in illegal crossings during his administration.
The President’s administration, now entering its third year, has overseen the worst border crisis in the history of the United States – with a record-breaking 2.3 million alien encounters and another record-breaking 600,000 gotaways in FY 2022 alone.
The month of December saw another record broken with 251,000 illegal alien encounters alone.
Throughout his speech to Congress, President Biden touted increases in Border Patrol staffing and increased seizures of fentanyl at the border. However, Biden also mentioned misguided measures introduced last month “which extended a humanitarian parole program for Venezuelans to include Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans nd would allow 30,000 in a month if they did not cross illegally,” reports Fox News.
While that policy was paired with an expansion of Title 42 expulsions to include those nationalities, Biden still repeated his appeals to Congress to pass a sweeping amnesty bill under the guise of “comprehensive immigration reform.”
Fox News reports:
At the core of the bill is an eight-year path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the U.S. before Jan. 1, 2021 – as well as immediate green card eligibility for farmworkers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients, and some who came to the U.S. as minors, often referred to as “Dreamers.”
The bill would also set up refugee processing locations in Central America, increase the number of immigration judges and open up a number of additional avenues for legal immigration – including “recapturing” unused visas from prior years, clearing visa backlogs, and expanding the diversity lottery visa program.
The administration continues to push the bill despite balking from Republicans, who thankfully appear all too eager to oppose such measures. Biden did mention that he would accept a smaller plan in hopes of gaining support across the aisle.
In response, some Republicans were heard yelling, “secure the border.”

And let’s also come together on immigration and make it a bipartisan issue once again.
We know we now have a record number of personnel working to secure the border, arresting 8,000 human smugglers, seizing over 23,000 pounds of fentanyl in just the last several months.
We’ve launched a new border plan last month. Unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela has come down 97 percent as a consequence of that.
But American border problems won’t be fixed until Congress acts.
If we don’t pass my comprehensive immigration reform, at least pass my plan to provide the equipment and officers to secure the border. And a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, those on temporary status, farm workers, essential workers.
Here in the people’s House, it’s our duty to protect all the people’s rights and freedoms.
