2013 Homeland Security Spending Bill on House Floor

The House of Representatives is currently debating H.R. 5855, a bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security for the 2013 fiscal year. This bill includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Services. There are several immigration amendments that would strengthen interior enforcement and increase border security. Here’s a list of the amendments that have been or are likely to be offered:

Rep. John Sullivan’s amendment to prohibit any funds from the bill from being used to terminate a 287(g) agreement ***UPDATE: This amendment passed on Thursday via voice vote, but a roll call vote was requested.***
Rep. Tom Price’s amendment to prohibit any funds from the bill from being used to circumvent or fail to enforce immigration laws ***UPDATE: This amendment was combined with two other amendments as an En Bloc amendment and was passed on Thursday via voice vote.***
Rep. Diane Black’s amendment to prohibit any funds from the bill from being used to pay for the position of Public Advocate within Immigration and Customs Enforcement ***UPDATE: This amendment passed on Thursday via voice vote.***
Rep. Sam Graves’ amendment to prohibit any funds from the bill from being used to finalize, implement, administer, or enforce the rule entitled “Provisional Unlawful Waivers of Inadmissibility for Certain Immediate Relatives” ***UPDATE: This amendment passed on Thursday via voice vote.***
Rep. Lou Barletta and Rep. David Schweikert’s amendment to prohibit funds from the bill from being used by sanctuary cities ***UPDATE: This amendment passed on Thursday via voice vote.***
Rep. Steve King’s amendment to prohibit funds from the bill from being used to finalize, implement, administer, or enforce the ICE memos issued by ICE Director John Morton that offers an administrative amnesty to illegal aliens ***UPDATE: This amendment passed on Thursday via voice vote, but a roll call vote was requested***
Rep. Ted Poe’s amendment that redirects funding from the bill to Border Patrol to pay for cell phone towers along the Southwest border with Mexico. ***UPDATE: This amendment passed late Wednesday night.***
