ICE Raids University of Northern Virginia after Suspicions of Student Visa Abuse

author Published by Chris Chmielenski

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents issued a Notice of Intent to Withdraw (NOIW) the school’s authorization to admit foreign students. ICE didn’t arrest anyone or take anyone into custody, but they did confiscate boxes of documents and has instructed the school not to admit foreign students until further notice.

The University of Northern Virginia currently enrolls 2,400 students, 90 percent of which are from India. A vast majority of those Indian students are from the Andhra Pradesh area in southeastern India. The University was permitted to distribute the I-20 form to about 50 students. But according to ICE, the University of Northern Virginia far exceeded that amount.

In the mean time students will still be permitted to attend classes at the Univeristy. However, if the investigation reveals that the school wrongly administered student visas, the school will surely face severe penalties and potentially shut down.
