Former Rep. Virgil Goode Calls for Immigration Moratorium

Former Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode used an op-ed published on several conservative websites to call for an immigration moratorium. Goode joins NumbersUSA and several Republican Congressmen who made the same call during a Congressional Forum last month.

Goode quoted NumbersUSA President Roy Beck’s congressional testimony in his article.

… cut the 75,000 each month as close to zero as possible as long as the overall U-3 unemployment rate remains above, say, 5%?…The numbers demand the introduction of legislation to suspend the issuance of as many permanent work visas as possible during this Jobs Depression.

Goode criticized the Obama Administration for ignoring immigration during the recent Jobs Summit held at the White House and also criticized them for ignoring a letter composed by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and 21 additional Members of Congress calling for stronger immigration enforcement.

This policy is a no brainer. It is pure madness to continue to keep flooding our country with millions of foreign workers when our own citizens cannot find jobs. It is time for a moratorium.

Goode clarified his call for an immigration suspension by writing that the United States should not close their doors for all immigrants. He said that spouses of U.S. citizens, people of extraordinary ability, and some other immigration categories should still be allowed entry.
