Gang of Eight Says ‘NO’ to ICE Union Official

author Published by Chris Chmielenski

Ever since the Senate’s Gang of Eight began work on legislation that would reform the nation’s immigration system and grant amnesty to 11-19 million illegal aliens, the union that represents the 7,600 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have asked for a seat at the table. But a spokesman for the one of the Gang of Eight members has said the Gang has officially snubbed the union.A spokesman for Sen. Bob Menendez told the Washington Examiner that the Gang doesn’t plan to meet with any groups when asked if they would meet with the ICE agents union.”Since the Gang of 8 has not met with anybody else, they did not agree to meet with the ICE union president,” Juan Pachad said.Last week, ICE Union President Chris Crane sent a letter to the Gang of Eight officially requesting a meeting.”Any comprehensive immigration bill would have enormous consequences for our officers and for the citizens we protect,” Crane wrote. “Fundamentally, I would implore you to consider this issue from the perspective of our officers who risk their lives every day in a constant uphill climb to uphold the laws of the land.”While the spokesman for Sen. Menendez said the Gang isn’t meeting “with any groups,” it’s been widely reported that the Gang has been working with both the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO on putting together the details of a guest-worker program.”Business and labor have an agreement and on the future flow, which has been the issue that has undone immigration reform in the past,” Sen. Chuck Schumer said on Meet the Press on Sunday. For more information, see the Washington Examiner.
