H.R. 463:

H.R. 463

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 2:47 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Support

H.R. 463 would improve the U-Visa program through various adjustments to the existing system. First, the program is limited so that only spouses and children of U-Visa holders may accompany to join the recipient of the U-Visa. In order to prevent abuse of the system, the list of crimes that create U-Visa eligibility is limited to actual completed crimes. In other words, attempt, conspiracy, and solicitation to commit one of the crimes listed have been removed.

H.R. 406

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 2:44 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

H.R. 406, would give immigration judges discretion to determine if an alien parent of a U.S. citizen child should be ordered removed, deported, or excluded, if such an order would be clearly against the best interests of the child. Certain aliens who pose at least one of several security threats or were engaged in sex trafficking do not count for the purposes of this bill.

H.R. 300, the Visa Wavier for Israel Act, would deem the country of Israel to be a program country for the visa waiver program (VWP), effective once Israel has complied with various State Department and Homeland Security requests that focus on national security and information sharing. The VWP allows citizens from select qualifying countries to enter the U.S. for tourism or business for 90 days or less without first obtaining a visa.

H.R. 242:

Legal Agricultural Workforce Act

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 2:28 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Oppose

Establishes a new program for a new class of temporary nonimmigrant agricultural workers (W) in addition to the already existing H-2A program. With visas limited to 10- month periods, the new system would try and protect American workers by utilizing an internet-based job registry to help employers recruit U.S. workers. The program would attempt to prevent abuse of the system by requiring the use of biometric cards by W-Visa holders and giving financial incentive for the aliens to return home when their visas expire.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
