H.R. 2131:

SKILLS Visa Act

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 12:12 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Split

H.R. 2131, the SKILLS Visa Act makes various changes to the immigration system with the intention of attracting high-skilled immigration to the United States. Unfortunately, the primary feature of the SKILLS Visa Act is a dramatic increase in foreign workers. 55,000 visas are added for STEM and medical graduates with advanced degrees, 10,000 for immigrant entrepreneurs, 15,000 for immigrants with advanced degrees (EB-2), and 15,000 for skilled workers and professionals (EB-3), for a total of 95,000 new employment-based immigrant visas.

S. 744:

Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 12:54 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Oppose

S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, was a massive immigration reform bill, introduced by the 'Gang of 8' that would result in approximately 30 million new permanent work permits issued in the first 10 years if passed. The bill would grant legal status and worker permits to an estimated 11 million illegal aliens with an opportunity for green cards after 10 years and replace some family-based immigration categories with a merit-based points system.

H.R. 6429:

STEM Jobs Act of 2012

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 3:54 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Split

H.R. 6429, the STEM Jobs Act of 2012, would cancel the visa lottery program and transfer the 55,000 yearly visas that would have been granted through the visa lottery into two new priority categories (doctorate and masters degree) under 203(b). For the first two fiscal years of the program, unused visas for which petitions or applications for labor certification have been filed will be added to the total visas for the next fiscal year. Following the first two years, remaining unused visas do not transfer to the next fiscal year.

S. 723:

Birthright Citizenship Act of 2011

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 3:13 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Support

S. 723, Birthright Citizenship Act of 2011, would end the process of granting automatic citizenship to the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens. This would put an end to a major source of U.S. population growth and remove an incentive for illegal immigration. It has been, and is currently, U.S. policy to automatically grant U.S. citizenship to the babies born to illegal aliens in the United States -- some 300,000 to 350,000 a year according to a spring 2005 article in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons. Not only do these births represent additional U.S.

H.R. 1196:

LEAVE Act

Published:  Thu, Jan 23rd 2014 @ 3:02 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Support

H.R. 1196, the LEAVE Act, would prevent illegal aliens from purchasing homes or receiving taxpayer-funded housing, stop illegal aliens from receiving Social Security payments, create a births and deaths registry in order to reduce identity fraud, end birthright citizenship, and call for fencing of the border and an increase in the number of border control agents. H.R. 1196 would also mandate the use of the E-Verify program and allow local law enforcement agencies to enforce America's current immigration laws.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
