S. 644:

Widows and Orphans Act of 2005

Published:  Tue, Jan 28th 2014 @ 1:21 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Oppose

S. 644, the Widows and Orphans Act, would increase asylum claims by creating a new special immigrant visa category for an unlimited number of women and children who are at risk of harm due to their gender and age. While it is difficult to estimate the numeric impact of this legislation, it is easy to imagine it would double the current 10,000 asylees who are allowed to become permanent residents each year.

Gang Deterrence and Community Protection Act of 2005

Published:  Tue, Jan 28th 2014 @ 1:06 pm EST

NumbersUSA's Position:

Support

The bill would authorize funds for joint federal, state, and local investigation and prosecution of gangs in the United States. [Note: The bill has few provisions that directly affect immigration, but since gangs are heavily comprised of aliens, especially illegal aliens, it would result in better enforcement and higher removal rates.]

To amend title 18, United States Code, to reduce violent gang crime and protect law-abiding citizens and communities from violent criminals, and for other purposes.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
