9:30 a.m. -- Pres. Obama has scheduled a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for this (Thursday) afternoon.
Presumably, the Hispanic Caucus will ask the President to prove himself a liar to the American people.
Obama and his spokesmen have made a very clear promise to a joint session of Congress and in many national media appearances that illegal immigrants will not benefit from any new federal health care plan.
The authoritative news service Congress Daily reports that the Hispanic Caucus has threatened Speaker Pelosi with voting against a House health care bill if it requires full verification against illegal immigrant participation in all parts of the new federal plan.
At the moment, Pelosi is bowing to the pro-illegal-immigration Hispanic Caucus and turning a cold shoulder to all those moderate Democrats who say their constituents want the House bill to back up Pres. Obama's promises.
Vulnerable Democrats have launched a last minute push to include language
excluding undocumented immigrants from buying insurance in the exchange
with private money -- a provision included in the Senate Finance Committee
bill. But adding the language to the House bill could jeopardize passage. Rep.
Ed Pastor, D-Ariz., said if the provision is included in the bill, a
majority of the 22-member Congressional Hispanic Caucus will vote against
the rule.Losing those votes could combine with remaining anti-abortion Democrats to
leave leaders unable to bring the bill to the floor, said Pastor, a chief
deputy whip. "With the issue of pro-life and other people voting against
it, it becomes pretty difficult to deal with," he said.-- Congress Daily
NumbersUSA members are continuing to phone Democratic Members of the House (202-224-3121), urging them not to make Pres. Obama a liar.
To fulfill the President's promise, the House bill needs to have full verification requirements for every single part of the federal plan -- not just one part as Speaker Pelosi has now accepted. And the bill has to bar illegal aliens from being part of the "exchange."
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said those fulfillments of Obama's promise would be too much to swallow:
I have already said no tax dollars shall go to support health care for undocumented workers. What more do you want me to do?" Gutierrez said. "I'm being consistent. But now they want to feed the frenzy of the xenophobic, right-wing anti-immigrant. . . .
A Democratic aide said the CHC should focus any anger on the White House and the Senate, which added the (verification) language after President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress. "The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," Obama said, prompting Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., to shout, "You lie!"
-- Congress Daily
Guitierrez and other champions of illegal aliens are willing to have words that bar illegal aliens from benefits but not actual verification procedures.
Will the Hispanic Caucus this afternoon persuade Obama to prove Joe Wilson correct?

I seen a couple of posts both past and present about laws "the only people who have to follow the laws are legal americans" thats how I see it or illegals would be locked up and deported & the ICE program would be allowed to do their job to uphold the laws.

I still dont get what part of Illegal they dont get. Americans dont want to pay more taxes for people who do not belong here but we do, we dont want to give up our jobs for them but we are not given a choice employers let americans go and hire 3 Illegals to 1 american.we are loseing our freedom so many americans fought & died for. the health care plan takes more of our freedom away. and even if Illegals have to pay for their own insurence here we are still paying for it because they take our damn jobs and houses from us soon we will all be living in the streets, homeless and jobless because the Illegals and their supporters will have everything. I wish the Illegals would take homes and jobs away from the people helping them so they can see how the rest of america feels.

The passed House bill permits illegal aliens to buy the health care insurance. The questions is where does the money come from, with which they buy the insurance? The answer is the money comes from working. But by American laws, illegal aliens are not allowed to work in the u.s. legally. If you are allowed to work legally, they would not be illegal aliens.
If they are permitted to buy the health insurance with their own money, they must be permitted to work in this country legally, to make money to buy it. As said, they are not allowed to work legally. The health care plan legalizes their status, from not allowed to work to allowed to work.
Thereafter, the health plan violates American laws.

This is not a hateful request; it is a request to finally slow down the illegal entry into this country, that illegal entry that takes advantage of U.S. citizens, many of whom are hurting tremendously from this economy and the loss of jobs. People around the world need to be discouraged from entering this country illegally, not rewarded. We cannot continue to keep supporting all who wish to enter this country with our tax dollars. I totally disagree with the U.S. Government taking charge of health care, but if it is inevitable (meaning my family's faxes and letters have had no effect) how can those put in office (by the people) not only burden the people with such a system, but burden them with much more than they should be asked to handle? If you do not put such precautionary language into the law, it would be an open invitation to the world, open doors to the world, to come here for care. I believe the system will be overburdened enough, just as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare have been overburdened; this will be much greater, and a much greater burden. It is no surprise to me that Congress does not include themselves in this health care plan. If Congress did include themselves, I might have just a little more positive attitude about what they are doing to the rest of us.

If they are here illegally they should be sent back now,it was done in the 60's so why can't they bus all these illegals back now,to were they came from, this would solve our job situation here, and unemployment.

obama also looked directly into a camera and said about the Stimulus bill "There are NO earmarks in this bill". After the bill was pushed through we found that there were more than 9,000 earmarks in the Stimulus bill.
Anyone actually believe illegals won't benefit from this health care reform bill? if so, I know a great bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell to you..........

Dear Mr. and Mrs. [Name of constituents removed here]
Thank you for contacting me about Social Security and other public benefits for immigrants who are in the United States in violation of our immigration laws. I appreciate hearing from you.
There is much confusion about whether illegal immigrants receive Social Security and other public benefits. The truth is that illegal immigrants are not eligible for most federal benefits.
Under existing federal law, which I have supported during immigration debates in the Senate, immigrants cannot receive Social Security benefits if they are not legally present in this country or if they lack work authorization. Illegal immigrants are also denied most retirement, welfare, disability, housing, food, unemployment, and postsecondary education federal benefits. They are not eligible for food stamps, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families cash assistance, or non-emergency Medicaid. Some states have made a public health decision to use state-only funds for basic health services for undocumented individuals in order to prevent the spread of contagious diseases.
Federal law does provide limited emergency benefits to illegal immigrants. These benefits, which are equally available to legal residents and U.S. citizens, include treatment for emergency medical conditions; short-term emergency disaster relief; immunizations against disease and testing and treatment of communicable diseases; and services necessary for the protection of life and safety such as soup kitchens and short-term shelters.
To be eligible for emergency Medicaid, unauthorized aliens must be poor and either elderly, disabled, or members of a family with children. Working-age single males are generally not eligible for any form of Medicaid regardless of their financial status or residence.
In 2004, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) studied the impact of emergency health care costs for illegal immigrants on hospitals. GAO found that in the 10 states with the highest estimated populations of illegal immigrants, emergency Medicaid costs made up less than three percent of each state's total Medicaid expenditures. The results of this study, which is available at http://www.gao.gov/cgi-bin/getrpt?GAO-04-472, show that the costs of emergency health care for illegal immigrants are a small fraction of overall Medicaid costs.
During the 2006 immigration debate, I opposed an amendment that would have prevented newly legalized immigrants from claiming Social Security benefits based on the taxes they paid as undocumented workers. This amendment was rejected by the Senate in a bipartisan vote. I believe that if immigrants become legal residents and thereby become eligible for Social Security benefits, they should receive credit for the taxes they have already paid into Social Security.
I share the concerns of those who feel that it is more difficult than ever to maintain a successful middle-class life in America. Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked to raise wages for American families, to make health insurance more affordable and accessible for all Americans, to strengthen collective bargaining rights, to prevent jobs from being sent abroad, to lower interest rates on college student loans, and to safeguard employee pensions. During immigration debates in the Senate, I have strongly opposed temporary guest worker programs that would bring a large influx of workers who might otherwise never come to our country. During the most recent immigration debate, I offered a Hire Americans First amendment to require employers to seek American workers for their open positions before they try to bring in guest workers.
There is no perfect solution to the problems we face as a result of our broken immigration system. Our borders are not secure, our workplace enforcement laws need reform, and our immigration policy fosters a shadow economy for millions of immigrants who simply want to demonstrate that they can be hardworking contributors to our country.
I will continue to work for a package of reforms that will protect American workers and that will be tough and enforceable, economically sensible and morally defensible. I will keep your views in mind as the debate continues.
Sincerely,
Richard J. Durbin

Note to the traitor, Durbin.
Illegals get all forms public assistance, thru their children. Thanks to the birthright citizenship myth. This may be a contributing reason why Mexican birthrates rise after they cross the border. We pay them to have kids. Then we let the kids vote and sponsor more immigrants. They move to the Mexican ghettos of Chicago, and vote for Durbin. In California, we call it the Pelosi Plan....Carlos

Ironically, the Durbins and Pelosi's are sealing there own fates, by pandering to the latino vote. They will only continue to be re-elected, until they are challenged by someone with a hispanic surname. Then they are toast. Here's what we need to do. We only back candidates of a truly independent position, with following condition. First they must legally change their name to Lopez,Sanchez, or ??. Hey, it worked for the mayor of Los Angeles, Tony Villar, aka: Antonio Villarrrraigosa. He's not Mexican either, but he tells everybody, he is. Or Loretta Sanchez, married name Brixley. You see it's all about pandering to poor Mexicans and their children. You don't even need a plausible platform....Carlos

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag.... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

When are those oligarchical lame brains in the government, who allow our streets to be controlled by illegal gang bangers, our prisons to be overrun by alien drug dealers, and our schools to be infiltrated with non-English speaking illegals' children going to realize most citizens want them thrown out on their ears from the offices they claim as a birthright, and are fed up with their galavanting, politicizing every issue, and perpetrating one lie upon another about this monstrosity they have the unmitigated gall to call "health reform"? Thank God for Representative Michelle Baumann from Minnesota, and her supporters, said to be 50,000 strong, who rallied outside of the Capitol building Tuesday, (election day), to protest this atrocity with a resounding "kill that bill", heard even above the sounds of arrogant Congress' men and women; especially by the "blue dog" Democrats who will be up for re-election in 2010, and will be sent packing by their constituents if they support this gargantuan "advocate's nightmare" Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Chuck Schumer, Barney Frank, and the rest of their ilk call "Health Care Reform".

When will the liberal leaders of this great country start listening to the American people that employ them? Americans are sick and tierd of supporting illegals whose very presence is a clear disregard for our laws! Americans need to make their collective voices heard, declaring once and for all that all illegals be retuirned to the country or countries of there origion and not be given rights o benefits afforded only to American citizens! Our liberal leaders are showing the world that they themselves have NO REGARD for the laws of our nation. It is tytome to put them on notice. We have laws governing immigration to the United States, and it is high time that our leaders start to uphold those laws! Not to do so undermines all law abiding practises and begs the question, "why should I obey any law, when those who govern do not do so", Why should I have any respect for the laws ofthis land when our leaders do not respect our laws"! Wake up America, your leaders are blatantly disregarding the laws of our land.

You are voting to provide free health care for Illegal Immigrants and you are financing it by taking $500 Billion Dollars out of Medicare. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Working in a hospital for over 30 years, I hate to say it, but illegal immigrants already receive medical care free! No public hospital is allowed to turn away anyone entering the ER. They simply use a common name from their nation of origin, PO Box for an address, and voila...they pay nothing.
My hospital delivered in excess of 4000 "anchor babies" last year at no cost to the parents! Employess have gone over 3 years with no raise and huge increases in the cost of our own medical care plan to pay for these babies.

The US Tax payer is tired of carring the burden for illegals no matter what country of origion they hail from. I was born in the UK Came to the USA 1954, served in the army with pride, did every thing by the book, Can not understand why if we followed all the laws already written how come we have all the illegal people living in the country in the first place, In 1954 after entering the country if under 26 you had to register for the draft, could not collect any unemployment, Your sponsor was responsible for you, you had to learn the constitution and speak English in order to get your citizenship. I have relatives still in the UK, one came here on a visit, had a heart attack while in Chicago he was rushed into hospital, they gave him a multiple bypass surgery, On returning to the UK went to his Doctor for a check up, His doctor informed him how lucky he was that this happened in the USA, He told him at his age "67" he would not have been eligible for a bye pass.
So as far as I am concerned I wish our congress would leave well enough alone.
As the saying goes, If it isn’t broke don’t fix it, OK maybe it is not perfect, but any thing this new socialist government will try to ram through , can only be a darn site worse, Get them to start thinking of our own people first before trying to save the rest of the world, My Dad used to say, and it is true, You can not buy friends.

Of course, Illegal Immigrants will no longer be Illegal after they are all granted amnesty. So, it's almost irrelevant what they are barred from receiving!
Thu, 11/05/2009 - 9:32pm
It won't be irrelevant because we the American people are not going to allow an amnesty to happen.
Secondly, even if there were to be an amnesty, it is important for any healthcare plan that might pass to exclude illegal aliens because that would affect the illegal aliens who come after the amnesty.
The difference between Obama and the Hispanic Caucus is this: Obama wants all the current illegal aliens to get the health care through an amnesty, but he doesn't want future illegal aliens to qualify. The Hispanic Caucus wants the amnesty, plus healthcare for all future illegal aliens.
How we differ is we don't intend to allow illegal aliens to get the healthcare through an amnesty -- now or in the future.

Yes, it's about votes. It most states the only thing that is required to vote is a driver's license number and the willingness to sign the oath/affidavit that you are entitled to vote. Most states don't even bother to verify the driver's license number actually belongs to the person who put it on their voter registration form. With the ability to get fake driver's licenses based on real, validate numbers for drivers's licenses the numbers of non-entitled to vote who are voting in every election keeps growing. The truth is that most of those non-entitled do vote for the Democratic party therefore it is really all about votes. The only reason we really are being subjected to another amnesty, remember the last time we did this the same groups promised we'd never have to do it again, is because of the adverse effect of illegal immigration has produced majority discontent with the fact that our nation is being harmed by illegal immigration. The real victims of illegal immigration also includes the millions of homeless children, roughly about 4-5 million under the age of 13. The parents of these children can't find work because most would be vying for jobs in the same sectors as the illegal immigrants. No one is talking about the real victims here. Everyone is running around waving their arms about the 20 million who is going to get to be a burden on the real citizens of this country.

Please, don't be snookered by Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. You won't be able to make Obama out to be a liar if the illegals are granted amnesty. Once amnesty is pushed through, over nearly 75% opposition, then those eligible will no longer be illegal. Obama will proudly point to the fact that no illegals were allowed benefits under the healthcare reform. It will be just one more semantics game that we've all become way to accustomed to hearing come from Obama's mouth. To merely pass the bill against overwhelming citizen opposition is a fundamental violation of the basic constitutional underpinnings for a republic that was supposedly created under the auspices that it would act in the manner of the best interests of the majority. We no longer have a true representative republican government. We now are existing under a communist style dictatorship with not a congress but a proletariat that is rubber stamping Obama's program's even when the majority of the nation is opposed to those programs. We must stand ready to SAVE OUR COUNTRY by planning and staging non-violent protests against the illegal activities of Reid and Pelosi much the way the opposition to the war was brought to the attention of the American people in the 60's. If Pelosi and/or Reid incorporates a command, threat, coercion, or anyway uses campaign funding or withholding of party support or any other material matter to force members of Congress to vote a particular way on a bill they would be guilty of criminal violation of USC Title 18 Section 610 Coercion of Political Activity. Violation of this section is punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment for three years. All it would take would be for one member of Congress to step forward and say that they had been commanded, threatened, coerced, or even there had been an attempt to intimidate them into voting a certain way for it to be a violation.

I disagree with much but certainly not all of what Walliam7697 had to say. I agree with him that it is hard to see how the the facto government we have today, be it controlled by the Democratic or Republican party, is in fact a democratic representative republic in any real sense of the meaning of that term. When a government time and time again passes laws and/or pursues policies which are opposes by a majority of American citizens, it can hardly be called representative! We are not as William7696 asserts "existing under a communist style dictatorship;" comments like this are pure hyperbole and do little or nothing to change the views of those not already opposed to amnesty and massive immigration.
While the Democratic party is currently in power and is pushing "comprehensive immigration reform - amnesty," William7698 seems to forget that President Bush and many Republicans in congress attempted to push through over public opposition "comprehensive immigration reform - amnesty;" on more than one occasion. Also, during the 2008 election cycle both Presidential candidates campaigned for "comprehensive immigration reform - amnesty." With these facts in mind, I don't see how anyone can with a straight face say amnesty is a partisan issue. Instead it is powerful business interests seeking cheap labor who are joined by ethnic, religious and other interest groups seeking political power and new members who champion amnesty for illegal aliens and open borders.
I'm a life-long liberal Democrat but I'm not a fool. It was a chance visit to NumbersUSA.org to view "Immigration by the Numbers," that began my journey from indifference to strong opposition to amnesty and massive immigration. I was converted by facts, not shrill partisan vitriolic comments. I post comments on many liberal sites and always conclude my comments with a recommendation to visit NumbersUSA.org to see "Immigration by the Numbers," and a GOOGLE video, "Arithmetic, Population and Energy," by Prof Albert Bartlett. Hopefully others will follow the path I took.

Supposing all the verifications barring the access to the health care by illegal aliens are successfully inserted into the bill, but a while later most of the illegal aliens become legal immigrants, then the barring would become good for nothing.
Once the illegal aliens are granted with legal status, they will have everything else, including health care. But most American people are obviously determined to not reward lawbreakers

Yes, and the Hispanic Lobbyists are Busy trying to Get Quick Full Paid Medicare in the Health Care Reform too
Article in part:
"...Latino leaders, worried that Congress might quietly cut back benefits for legal immigrants, have started an 11th-hour campaign to eliminate waiting periods for them in the proposed legislation and to cancel the existing five-year wait for Medicare and Medicaid programs...."

While 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc generation immigrants called "We the People" and our families have paid into Medicare [like $120/mo] all our lives to maybe get a few years coverage after we turn 65-70....they get it in 5 years??????
This is pure Communist hogwash.

I just got off the phone with a staff member working for patrick murphy (d) PA.
The staff member just repeated murphy's B/S line about the "Present existing wording" that already prevents IL-legal residents from receiving medical benefits. I asked the staffer to not waste my time repeating murphy's stock B/S answers to this (problem) question and to register my opinion which is strongly against "Any health benefits for IL-legal residents, and added that I don't want any of my tax dollars being used for abortions for anyone!"
I supplied my zip code so that they would be positive that I live in murphy's Congressional area.

I have two questions/requests:
1) What is the definition of the word "exchange" that I so often see in any discussion pertaining to health insurance options?
2) I agree 100% with all who insist there be no illegal alien access to health benefits defined in the bills under consideration and that there be verification required for all bill provisions - but - I don't understand how Pelosi and her supporters can take the opposite stance which so blatantly sneers at immigartion law and at the wishes of the majority of Americans they represent. They are not dumb. Surely they must be capable of articulating the reasoning behind their position. I'd like to hear it. There are always at least two sides to every issue and while I can not imagine the logic behind their position, surely they purport to have some. What is it? Yes - I know we all believe it's purely an attempt to capture the Hispanic vote - but they can't say that. So - what DO they say? I'd like to know (and I think all of us should want to know) how they defend their position - so that none of us can be accused of only looking at the issue from one viewpoint. If we are all armed with the logic claimed by both sides, we're in a better position to convince those who are not yet convinced that the current versions of these health bills should not be passed. Othersise, we're open to criticism that we're racist and/or we are vulnerable to arguments that we have't heard before and are therefore unprepared with a response.
So - is anyone out there educated on the justifications used by the other side? Do me and all of us a favor by posting it here...
NumbersUSA Moderator: First, the proposed health care exchange would create a marketplace for individuals who can't get insurance through their jobs. The "public option" would be one of the insurance plans available for purchase, which, supporters argue would prevent the private insurers from inflating their prices. The answer to your second question is that Pelosi is hoping that no one takes notice. But thanks to the phone calls and faxes of all NumbersUSA members, the issue has made its way into the news.

Thanks for the reply - but I'm still confused. A "marketplace" for obtaining health insurance exists today. All, employed or not, have the option to purchase health insurance from any one of a few dozen companies. I understand what you say about a "public option" being touted as a cost control of sorts - but seems to me it just represents one more choice than we have today. Why is the new scheme referred to as an "exchange"? Is there some aspect of what is being proposed that I'm missing? Exchage????
I'm sure Pelosi hopes no one will notice, but what does she say to the Congress in defense of her position?

Much of the blame for the political situation in California can be laid at the feet of the "birthright citizenship" myth. The dogma that, children of non-citizens, born in the US, are themselves citizens ( Google these words: "the original intent of the 14th amendent") Well guess what America, in California, as well as,Arizona, and Texas, those children have grown up, and they vote. And there are millions of them. This, along with rampant voter fraud (google: Robert Dornan) is how/why Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Cedillo, Nunez, Villaraigosa, the Sanchez(s),... ad nauseum, pander to, and get elected over and over again. Approx 50% of California's budget gap of $40 billion dollars goes to the health, education, welfare and incarceration of illegal aliens and their illegal alien children.

Re: Pleasing Hispanic Caucus or Being a Liar (Obama's healthcare
The whole "Health Care" bill is illegal!
Since most of both houses of Congress some of the must have read the Constitution Especially the 10th amendment. Where in that amendment does in say that I do not have the right to have control over my own health care and gives them the right to fine me and even threaten to send me to prison for 5 years if I don't sign on.
