The feds' monthly report was even worse than expected: 598,000 jobs cut in January. And, yet, Senate leaders have still not given permission for a vote on a Stimulus Bill amendment that would keep illegal foreign workers from getting jobs created by the massive taxpayer effort.
How many Americans have to lose their jobs before they are given priority over illegal aliens and the outlaw companies that hire them?
The government says employers slashed payrolls by 598,000 in January, the most since the end of 1974, catapulting the unemployment rate to 7.6 percent.
The Labor Department's report is grim proof the nation's job climate is deteriorating at an alarming clip with no end in sight. Job losses were far worse than the 525,000 economists expected. So was the rise in the unemployment rate, now at the highest since September 1992.
America's newspapers, for the most part, continue to do the work of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in protecting the hiring of illegal aliens instead of the rising armies of unemployed Americans. USAToday ran an article primarily devoted to stating the Chamber of Commerce's distorted criticisms of the E-Verify program.
It carried the typical lie that E-Verify threatens to mis-identify legal residents as illegal aliens and erroneously ordering them fired.
As I have noted previously, NumbersUSA has issued the challenge to find even ONE case of such a thing happening after milions upon millions of transactions over the last 12 years. To date, not one has been produced. E-Verify is one of the most accurate programs ever run by the government. (Click here to read a NumbersUSA factsheet on E-Verify.)
One of our staff phoned a pro-illegal-alien Senator this week to note the recent Heritage Foundation study that predicted the Stimulus Bill as written in the Senate would give about 300,000 new construction jobs to illegal aliens. The Senate staffer replied that, oh, no, that was not possible because it is illegal to hire illegal foreign workers.
Oh, my, I need a lot of those uproarously laughing smiley faces on this line!
Well, yes, it has been illegal to hire illegal aliens since 1986 when an amnesty brought our illegal population close to zero. But we now have an estimated 7.7 million illegal foreign workers in jobs. Obviously, simply saying something is illegal doesn't stop it.
Requiring every government and business to run new hires through E-Verify is absolutely necessary if Americans and authorized immigrants already here are to get the new jobs being created as rather minor relief to monthly collapse of U.S. jobs. (Click here to read a press release by Rep. Lamar Smith, urging that the stimulus protect American workers)
If the Senators decide to pass the Stimulus Bill, they have 598,000 more reasons today to include an E-Verify requirement.

My next door Neighbor who has four young Children to Support just was laid off from his Job after 20 years of an outstanding work record. The Company said it was "Reorganizing"!
He went back to see a friend of his a week later and found that "Refugees" from Ghana had been given his job!
His friend works in Operations and has access to all the Companies files on ALL personnel.
There are NO Documents in anyone's files anywhere in the co. Files as who hired them, their legal status or ANYTHING!!
He did find out that all they are getting for wages is the Federal Minimum and NOTHING ELSE in the form of compensation. The guy with the four children is going to lose his house, car and EVERYTHING that he owes because he can't make any payments! The entire family is without any medical insurance as well. He can't even find a job as a house keeper -- immigrants/refugees have taken ALL of them!!
Another Middle Class Family is in EXTREME HARDSHIP!!
It is NOT FAIR!!

NumbersUSA Moderator: This is a great example of what can happen when the government floods the labor pool. Of course, immigrants and refugees have as much right to work as native-born citizens do, the blame lies with Congress who continues to import workers that we do not need.
As to the doubts about these workers' legal right to work, this is why we need E-Verify.

I never thought that this great country's politicians would ever turn their back on their own people. When I enlisted in the army and I took an oath to protect my county from its enemies both forein and domestic and what congress is doing is criminal at the very least. What part of illeagel don't they understand!!!! They say the just want a better life, well so does a bank robber, but they arrest them. If the goverment is so determined to help Mexico than We should own it becase we are sure paying for it. At around 26 Billion a year that goes back.

I am appalled again and again by the actions of the people who are supposed to represent Americans (Congress). I recall how shocked I was by the refusal to stop any immigration after 9/11. It wasn't even considered. How secure can our country be if immigration continues unabated, both legal and illegal. There is a huge difference between being caring and concerned and being just plain stupid as our representatives are as well as immigration advocates. Enough Immigration Insanity and American Welfare for the entire world.

I cannot believe that, yet again, the legislature is giving away our tax dollars to people who are not in this country legally. Let them enter legally, be a citizen or be on the road to citizenship, pay taxes and then they deserve all the rights afforded to its citizens by the United States. As far as giving away thousand of jobs to illegal aliens, again, that is shameful. The thousands and thousands of United States citizens need those jobs and they should get them, before an illegal alien.
I cannot believe that more people are not upset about this. This country has to stop giving away our money.

LaRAZA now has an official seat on Obama's cabinet. Yes, he appointed a LaRAZA official to be part of his CABINET!! Now watch as Obama stops the fence from being finished and while he make ALL illegals AND their EXTENDED families LEGAL so they can vote. What do we think will change unless EVERY method is used to protect OUR TAX MONEY being spent for even more illegal immigration.
Yes, E-Verify should be 'MANDATORY'. And yes,it could have been a mandatory requiremtnt. However, the Amendment which WOULD have prevented illegals from benefiting from Obamas Pork filled 'Stimulus' bill WAS PREVENTED FROM BEING BROUGHT UP FOR EVEN A VOTE.
NO, the Democrats (and obviously SENATORS SPECTOR from PA.; and SENATORS SUSAN COLLINS & OLYMPIA SNOWE both from MAINE) didn't want their votes recorded that would show they are FOR Illegals benefiting with our tax dollars; and show that they do not want to protect 'Americans' jobs.
Their offices should be bombarded with calls and faxes NOW. Numbersusa has all of their numbers; Washington & local offices. Fax them for free AND call them all.
Additionally ... We need our OWN march on Washington. We, 'The Silent Majority', need to become as "LOUD and VISIAL" to the public & all of our Representatives in Washington as the pro-illegals.
A March IS being planned for May 30th ... will 'WE THE PEOPLE' be there FINALLY, or, are we going to remain 'SILENT' where nothing will change?

I have tried to call all 3 Republican senators who are working the so-called "compromise" to the senate bill, to ask them to ADD the E-Verify amendments, or vote NO on the entire bill.
All of them have had "full mailboxes" for the past two days.......a fax is the only way to get through I think.

To e-mail those 3 turncoat senators (Collins, Snowe, Spector) go to their main web page, found by typing their name in the search box and it will pop up, then choose "contact" from the menu. You can easily e-mail them from that. I did so this morning without problem.
The Center for Individual Freedom also has a link to fax all 42 Republican senators to urge them to vote no on the "stimulus package."

Has our government become our enemy? They have allowed a massive flow of illegal aliens into our country. The illegals are bankrupting our country on one hand, and enriching business on the other. Business's get tax cuts at the same time putting hire taxes on citizens through sales tax, gasoline, etc.. Now the government wants toll roads too. At the same time putting American's out of work, just look at the construction industry, mostly illegal's. Why? Because the wages have been reduced to the wages of illegal aliens, and American's won't work for the same wages as illegals. Why would an American do construction work for $15.00 an hour when they can work in sales or something else for $12-$15 an hour. It makes no sense! So our government and business uses illegals in our construction industry; which has created an imbalance in housing. Now we have a huge over supply of houses.
It is my belief that this whole MASSIVE CRISIS is in large part because of the invasion and colonization of our country by Mexico.
The illegal's and their kids are dragging our country down. Just look at California. California is BANKRUPT because of illegal's. California has gone from a 10% Hispanic population to over 55% since Ronald Reagan betrayed us, and signed amnesty. They have to many kids, 3,4,5 and six and they live in houses that are to small. There is no room in the homes so the kids run the streets making gangs.
Illegals also create and add to gangs. The gangs are now actually a TERRORIST ARMY clearing the way for more illegal's. We must attack this TERRORIST ARMY in a military fashion; not with police but with the military.
My point is that our own government is ENABLING the illegal alien invasion with laws that help and protect them like this new issue we are concerned with now.
No money or resources should go to illegal aliens any way shape or form. If it does American's must consider this to be an attack on them and we must prepare to defend ourselves, wither it is by voting, (which has proven not to work), or marching, or using the Constitution as our tool to take back our country, (read the Constitution, it tells use what to do).

Remembering the pre 1986 amnesty days when immgre would stage “raids” on businesses in the L.A. area, who was supervising the inspector’s, some ( I do not know what the figure is on the percentage) inspector’s took bribe’s and looked the other way or when illegal’s were discovered and sent back to Mexico, they would return after a quick trip to visit family or not even bother to do that and steal back into our Country, with their job waiting for them. Obviously the punishment for hiring illegal’s was not severe enough or the Border secure. What I have read about the amendment which addresses fines and penalties, the first fines & penalties are minimal with a second violation being more severe yet not as severe IMO, as what is needed to effectively alleviate the stomach churning practice of hiring illegals. E-verify is essential since illegal’s & criminals use fraudulent ID and SSI numbers to get hired. I Suppose eventually the criminals will figure out a way around e-verify until then it is a stop gap. Unless the border is sealed they will continue to come and the situation will only become much worse as the condition’s in Mexico deteriorate. If only our elected officials had more forethought and American’s were more involved in Government we would not be in this mess.

I posted a similar comment on a similar blog here...
I am so fed up with my senators (PA), one is democrat the other republican.
I have asked both of them, "please write a new, bipartisan, stim. bill, with NO pork." With that request I told them I would form a committee to oppose their reelection if the current package goes forward.
Instead of just telling people to vote, vote their conscience, or try to convince them who to vote for, it's time to show these two senators they really need to listen to the majority.
The Illinois governor learned that the hard way, so may others.
I would appreciate any comments.

We need to demand monthly accoutability, tallied disclosure from all the people in congress on how their vote on bills has helped the American taxpayer in saving money and in creating living wage jobs for taxpaying American workers .
Elections should be held every two years in all positions,(including the president position) so the slackers can be ousted that much faster.
No person in or running for office should ever take money or anything from anyone for any reason.
Elections should draw funding from a general fund divided equaly among the candidates, tv time is also divided equally paid from the general fund.

Kristan, someone has to check as to whether or not a person is legally allowed to work. The dishonest employers hire people with false SSN numbers and do not bother to check. E-Verify simply gives them an easy way to know.
They still won't check because they do not want to hire Americans as they have to pay minimum wage, or at least a competetive wage. To stop the hiring, we must mandate that the employers verify the eligibility. We do not have that as a legal requirement today.

Hi Frank, I understand that people need to be verified. I also know that some people use fake social security numbers to get jobs. The reality though is that many employers knowingly hire these people or are simply too lazy to care. I just simply was saying I don't feel at eas with giving the government one more tool that could be used against everyday American citizens, especially when the methods in place are not even being enforced. Methods that would work just as well as E-verify. Don't get me wrong I am 100 percent for wanting something done. However at what expense to our own freedom to we do this. It's kinda like the wire tapping the government does, remember, that was supposed to help us too. Instead it was not used as it was intended and was used against everyday citizens like you and me. Also, if the punishment were actually used that are supposed to be in place against these employers who hire them, Less would do so. Going to jail, tends to change someones outlook, i'm sure. One last thing too, somebody is obviously voting for these pathetic politicians that are pro illegal immigrant and until that is changed the problem will continue, I still can not fathom that some politicians and these groups like LaRaza have the B@lls to publicly state that we should hire illegals and make it out like we are the bad ones and they are the victims. A good start would be to send a firm message to all of those involved that we will no longer be made to feel guilty for standing up for our rights and for demanding the law be upheld against the people.
NumbersUSA Moderator: You seem to have read some of the lies our opponents have spread about E-Verify, which does not collect any new information on anyone. E-Verify tells the employer whether the applicant has the legal right to work. None of our current laws do that with such efficiency. That is why E-Verify is necessary.

There are a few who honor their commitment to the American people, but most members of the Senate have become lazy and corrupt. The same is unfortunately true of the media. They have all learned that power and wealth will be given to those who deny the truth and support the business call for an unending supply of cheap immigrant labor, legal and illegal. We are losing our jobs, our standard of living, our quality of life, and our respect for the law. We have been sold out by those we elected and by those we counted on to tell us the truth. We don't lose to those crooks because we are wrong. We lose because they have succeeded in keeping the American people in the dark. Lincoln said "you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." Those who are running this country into the ground for personal gain are betting that Abe Lincoln was wrong. It is up to us all to turn the tide and show them that he was right. Flood Congress with faxes and phone calls and emails. Spread the truth to family and friends. Give them the facts that the media hide.

It's bad enough that we have lost millions of good jobs to China, India and South
America, now Illegal aliens are being considered first for the jobs the so-called
stimulus bill will provide. Americans have to come together to demand that no
illegal be eligible for any benefits of monies that American citizens have worked hard for. Politicians rant against so-called protectionism when we say
"Buy American" but where are they when our economy is destroyed by the global
economy they support? It is time that our Congress begin to work for the people
who are paying their salaries. Maybe we should provide some kind of layoff for the

I am concerned about the E-verify thing. I don't know for some reason something doesn't smell right. I have no doubt in the least bit that it will pass. This is why i'm concerned though: There are and have been many ways to verify whether someone is legal to work here, Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, Back Ground Checks, Work References, School Records, and the list goes on. Why have these methods not already been employed properly? I know some will say that you can fake these, yes, maybe some but not all. Much like the drug problem in the country, the reason illegals are still employed is because it is of a benefit to people wanting cheap labor and since the politicians get there slice of the pie and are, shall we say, pursuaded with money or getting re-elected or getting voted out if they don't go along with the program nothing gets done. I can't help but think it is part of a bigger plan, one that uses us and illegals as pawns to pull off a bigger purpose.
For example, if you wanted to implement something, wouldn't you want the people that it would affect to think it was good for them and maybe even make it to where they rallied for it? My Grand Mother has been gone for many years now but she used to always say, be careful what you ask for and what you want to enforce on others because it might end up being used on you. Mind you, I have been a proponent of E-verify and thought it was a perfect way to help end or start an ending to illegal employment. The thing that bothered me was when I read the steps and process they plan. It starts first to try and weed out new illegals then a while later they are going to use it on people that have already been employed, even if you have been there for years. Basically the plan is to use it on everybody that has a job. I don't know about anybody else but that sounds a little freaky to me.
The government already knows too much about us and this would be a way that they would know everything. Think about it. You could no longer just get a job without the government knowing where and when. While i'm sure we all would like it used to stop illegal employment, how many of us that are born here want it used on us. I mean why? Why have they not properly used the methods to verify that would have nearly stopped most if not all illegal employment that are already in place? I mean, I'm no personell director or immigration specialist and I could still find out if someone was here illegaly. It's not that hard. Especially with what's available on the internet. For example, I have even found out information that I didn't know about myself or had forgotten. What needs to be beefed up is enforcement of the laws already in place, not new ones and more of them.
I personally know of many situations where police have caught people they knew or suspected of the person being here illegal and the police have done nothing about it. I even know of a situation where someone I know who was hit by another car and when the woman got out to get the other womans information the woman who hit her took off running. Well, she took off after her and caught her and made sure she stayed put until the police arrived. The police checked for ID and the woman couldn't speak much english and turned out to be illegal. They told my friend that there was nothing they could do and let the illegal go. Then my friend had to pay the deductable to have her own car repaired. Now i'm not a genius but does anybody else find that crazy that the police said they couldn't do anything. If that was you or me it would be another story. So, if the police are unable to arrest someone that is know to be illegal then how is anything being done. The police said they don't arrest them because basically they are told not to.
It's almost like all this is being done to ensure that E-verify is put into place. Under the guise that it's good foor the American people and people here legally. Then of course the people who really want it can make it seem as though they are against it only to say, "Oh well, it's what the people want! How can we go against the people?" I know to some or maybe even a lot of people that may all sound paranoid and conspiratory and believe me i'd have said the same not too long ago but how strange is it that E-verify may come into affect under an administration who supposedly believe it is profiling? All the while they are pushing for and building up big brother. All I have to say is what my Grandma said, Be careful what you ask for because it may be used against you. I love this country but I do not trust our government and I do not trust many of the politicians.
NumbersUSA Moderator: Thank you for sharing your concerns. First, E-Verify does not collect any information that is not already collected under our current I-9 system. There are no new databases; there is no expansion of big brother. The E-Verify system improves the current system by "verifying" whether the information is accurate or not.
You bring up two issues: (1) E-Verify and information collection; and (2) Enforcement. As mentioned before, E-Verify does not collect any additional information - that is a lie that the open-border groups would like you to believe. We do need better enforcement, but our current laws are NOT adequate. We do need E-Verify.

Dorothy I feel as you do, wondering why the most logical solution to the problem of unemployed AMERICAN’S is not being utilized. In the past it was common for corporation’s & small business to train & promote from within which had a dual effect of instilling loyalty to the company while keeping America a self sustaining nation. Suddenly this practice went out the door when corporations got GREEDY. Government granting corporation’s an ever increasing allotment of foreign cheap labor visas, American Student’s graduating from University’s could not get their foot in the door of most corporation’s and count on further training or continue in their field of study while being employed... NOT study for years only to be called upon to train their replacement! Government has gone off the tracks and completely lost any sense of sanity as to what is good for America and it‘s workers. Greed and continual reliance on foreign cheap labor has sounded the death knell for American’s looking to succeed in the job market. Restaurants, fast food places, markets the list of jobs stolen from American’s by illegal’s, and the plethora of visa’s granted foreigner’s has caused the economy to be in a much worse place than if those foreigner’s were not taking the jobs American’s depend on during a DEPRESSION and folks I do not want to sound like an alarmist, though that is were we are headed fast! And remember this, during the last deep depression Lawyer’s & doctor’s washed dishes in order to survive.

Susan, I completely agree with you and Dorothy. I feel,as my dad feels, OUR government has not bothered with protecting the interests of U S citizens for a long time.My husband used to drive truck locally for a potato farm, it wasn't the best job-but it was a job. Now the farm has told him and other ex-employees that they will no longer need them. They have decided that it is to their benefit to pay FOREIGNERS a pre-arranged seasonal salary instead of paying the former employees who live locally a measly $10.50 per hour. This job is perfect for the illegals, since it is seasonal (March/April thru October/November) they can return to their HOME during the off season. And now my husband along with about 30 other local men are out of work, permanently! Oh, and don't worry about sounding like an alarmist, I have been saying the word DEPRESSION for some time now, while the higher-ups in this country keep fooling themselves by claiming that we are "headed for a recession". I work in home health care, so I will be wiping elderly and disabled bottoms in order to survive.

Thank you for posting this informative article.
The reluctance of Congress to implement E-Verify or similar protections more widely suggests to me that perhaps Congress does not appreciate the actual extent of the economic disenfranchisement of Americans in the domestic workplace at this time of soaring unemployment.
For example, in light of the unemployment statistics you cited, the theoretical basis for temporary H-1B and H-2B visas no longer seems to exist. Most other nations give employment priority to job applicants who are either citizens or actively seeking legal immigration to become citizens. If they can't find enough candidates in a given occupation, employers in those nations must initiate genuine training programs to train citizens to fill those jobs.
Perhaps the creation of an H-1B and H-2B entity business index and a corresponding "training program" index to mandate the reporting of the actual number of H-1B and H-2B visa holders working at any given firm to the SEC or other governmental agency would be useful?

It is critical that we protect Oregon jobs for Americans only. Now that the fantasy of "never-ending globalized work" has hit the fan, everyone can see that each and every job is a precious object to hold and protect for one's own people. Roy, Since the media could help in this matter; then can't you get the word out to a few TV commentators.......like say on FOX, etc? See if you can book some spokespeople on a few shows to make sure more of the public know about theses two E-Verify amendments? I am SURE the general public would never buy into giving jobs created by any stimulus bill to illegal aliens, if they know that is even a possibility!
FROM ROY: We're trying. But this kind of thing tends to be blocked by all media. Although FOX has some good commentators on our subject, its news division is as bad as the rest in favoring the Chamber of Commerce position on more foreign workers.

I refuse to sit quietly anymore. These are our taxes they are stealing from to give to law breaking ilegals that do not give a darn about our laws or land. I suggest every American citizen that cares about our country wakes up, and opens their mouth as loud as I have been. Write to our president how you feel about ilegals taking our jobs, ruining our health care system, and taking food off our tables to give to law breaking ilegals that do not belong here or care about our laws, not to mention they do not pay taxes. This is a web site President Obama posted, he says he wants to hear from you. http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/
We are tired of footing their bill. Send the right message, you break into our country, we deport you. Thats our law!

My paper has had at least 4 articles at various times supporting illegal immigration. Three times I have written letters to the editor telling the other side. None of these letters have been published.
Perhaps Numbers could come up with a newspaper advertisement telling the other side. I'd reimburse Numbers for the cost of the ad in my paper. Other people might be willing to do the same.
NumbersUSA Moderator: Your letters still help. If more people would write in, the paper will be more inclined to print one or two of them. Ads are very expensive and we appreciate your offer. Someone may be in touch with you.

If you have ever listened to Lou Dobbs on CNN from 7 to 8 EST you will know that he has been pushing E-verify for a long time. This is a disgrace. Is this the "Change we can Believe in?" Democrats are going to sell this country right down the river. It's collapsing from within. Do not be more surprised when Manuf jobs continue to leave this country this year. Again, Clinton signed NAFTA into law and we all saw what happened. Nothing is going to change as this country heads into 3rd World Status. Just remember, Congress is Recession Proof. They will take care of themselves in difficult times and that includes forgetting to pay their taxes.
