MPI: Nonimmigrant Visas Up 10% in 2015

Migration Policy Institute Nonimmigrant Visas Up 10%

According to the annual report released by the Migration Policy Institute the number of nonimmigrant visas issued by the U.S. Dep. of State (DOS) increased by 10% in 2015 compared to 2014. The DOS issued 10.9 million nonimmigrant visas in 2015 up from 9.9 million visas issued in 2014.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, introduced an amendment on Monday to the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act that would restrict funds from being used to modify existing airports or to build new ones without an agreement with DHS that the new facility would install and implement a biometric entry-exit system within two years of completion.

DHS Visa Overstay 2015 Report

The Department of Homeland Security released a report yesterday showing that nearly 500,000 foreigners entered the U.S. and overstayed their visas in 2015. This is the first report of its kind, even though Congress ordered this report conducted nearly twenty years ago.

CBP Launches First Phase in Biometric Entry/Exit Testing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced plans to begin collecting biometric data from non-U.S. citizens entering and exiting the country in early 2016. CBP will install six new kiosks at San Diego’s Otay Mesa port across the border from Tijuana, Mexico and hope to be collecting both entry and exit data by February.

DAPA Amnesty Heads To The Supreme Court

The Obama administration formally asked the Supreme Court to review and rule on the court case that is delaying his Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) executive amnesty. The petition was filed exactly one year after Pres. Obama announced several executive actions on immigration.

My goodness, there has been a flurry of immigration posturing and positioning since we last revised our Ratings of the Presidential candidates in 10 categories and calculated overall Worker-Protection Immigration Grades!

We've just finished our regular Grading Committee meeting (early Friday afternoon) here at NumbersUSA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. We've sifted through the charges and counter-charges and focused on what the candidates are saying that really address what they specifically are promising to do about immigration policies.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
