Sen. Tom Coburn

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) offered an amendment (SA 2523) to the Dept. of Interior spending bill (H.R. 2996) that would prevent any funds in the bill from being used to limit U.S. law enforcement activities, including immigration enforcement, on public lands near the border. The language is near identical to an amendment adopted during yesterday’s House debate and passage of H.R. 324 – the Santa Cruz National Heritage Area Act. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, requested a unanimous consent and the amendment was adopted without a recorded vote.

The immigration debate often brings out the worst in people, but it still is disappointing to see the sad display by a number of bishops and other religious leaders yesterday outside the Capitol. They used their prayer vigil to spew hatred at their fellow Christians and other Americans working to reduce immigration in order to help the most vulnerable members of our society.

President Obama has set multiple guidelines to protect our land for future generations. Somehow the politicians who are most vocal about protecting our environment often do not want to address how current immigration policies are detrimental to this goal. This new video and a short summary video explain how the United States cannot reach its environmental goals unless it stops its policy of forcing large population growth through mass immigration.

Securing our southern border raises interesting environmental issues. But there is no denying the environmental devastation along the border resulting from illegal immigration and our chronic failure to secure the borders. Janice Kephart uses exclusive hidden camera video to tell the story of the negative effects of not stopping illegal immigration across the Mexican border in the following guest blog. . .

A recent essay posted on an environmental website at Yale University, YaleGlobal, discusses the touchy subject of immigration's impact on environmentalism. The positions that political liberals take on both issues can often contradict each other.

Diversity Works With A Common Goal (our NumbersUSA training of Super Volunteers shows it)

A great group of American citizens just left our headquarters after being trained for two days as Super Volunteers. We knew before they arrived that their diverse backgrounds created possibilities for friction (such as one volunteer whose job it is to help his large firm keep its union workers in check, and another volunteer whose entire career was at the national headquarters of the AFL-CIO!). In fact, though, amity reigned because all placed priority on a common goal. The strength in diversity comes from the sameness of purpose.

Typically, my highly visible calls last week to reduce immigration for the sake of the U.S. environment have been met by attempts to say that my/our environmental concerns are just cloaks to cover up true racist motives. Nothing could be further from the truth. I want to say a few things about NumbersUSA's position on race, and also to appeal to all readers to challenge these words of false witness wherever you encounter them on the internet.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
