Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, dove into the world of political activism last year by launching the pro-amnesty group FWD.us. Investing millions of his own personal fortune, Zuckerberg joined dozens of other leaders in the tech industry who have a vested interest in suppressing wages for tech workers through increased legal immigration and granting legalization and work permits to millions of illegal aliens.

Everyone knows that the United States has long suffered from widespread shortages in its science and engineering workforce, and that if continued these shortages will cause it to fall behind its major economic competitors. Everyone knows that these workforce shortages are due mainly to the myriad weaknesses of American K-12 education in science and mathematics, which international comparisons of student performance rank as average at best.

Section 274A of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides detailed procedural requirements that employers must follow before hiring any individual. All employers, regardless of the size of their respective business, must verify the identity and work authorization of every new hire, citizen or alien. This includes reviewing documents which establish the employee's legal identity and his/her elgibility to be employed in the United States. If the employee is being hired for three or fewer days, verification must be done immediately when employment commences.

The best thing American business owners can do to ensure they stay in line with the law and protect American workers is to use E-Verify. Here are a few of the other benefits to using it.

1) It is easy to use and free for employers.

2) An employer who uses the pilot in good faith cannot be held liable for hiring an illegal alien -- use of the system is an affirmative defense -- or for discrimination because he never has to ask the hire for more or different documents since the computer does all of the checking.

The purpose of this glossary, which is the product of significant research, study and polling, is to equip opponents of the immigration bill passed by the U.S. Senate in 2013 (as well as the ongoing legislative maneuvering to get the entire Congress to pass the same bill or something similar) with a common vocabulary to advocate a unified policy position.

The policy position is most succinctly expressed as follows:

State-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards open doors of opportunity in the United States. Not only does the driver’s license grant Americans the privilege to operate a vehicle, it also is widely accepted as an identification card that enables the bearer to access a plethora of services and benefits. Driver’s licenses and ID cards are used to rent apartments and cars, open bank accounts, cash checks, enter secure buildings, buy guns, and board commercial aircraft, among other things.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
