The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly jobs report on Friday in advance of Labor Day weekend, and BLS reports that nonfarm employment increased modestly by 173,000 in the month of August. The number looks good, but it represents a 30% decrease in new jobs from the previous two months.

The 17 Republican Presidential Hopefuls take the stage to face the voters for the first time this afternoon and evening in two separate rounds of debates. We'll be looking for more clarity from the Hopefuls on their positions on legal and illegal immigration and how the numbers impact American workers and their wages.

The House of Representatives approved H.R.3009, Rep. Duncan Hunter's (R-Calif.) sanctuary cities bill, last Thursday, hopefully starting a debate over the Obama Administration's efforts to severely weaken interior enforcement.

If any good can come from the tragic shooting of a San Francisco woman earlier this month at the hands of a five-times deported illegal alien, it's that Congress may finally take action to punish sanctuary jurisdictions that protect illegal aliens, including the federal government which has been releasing criminal aliens onto the streets.

The most common critique of our 2016 Presidential Hopefuls comparison grid this week has been of our amnesty rating for Ted Cruz. The Texas Senator has a mixed history on the issue, but we've given Cruz our second best rating of "Very Good". Here's how we arrived at that rating.

For the first time in 10 years, the issue of Birthright Citizenship was in the forefront on Capitol Hill this week when the House Immigration Subcommittee held a hearing on Wednesday. The hearing sought to determine if Birthright Citizenship is the right policy for America, but it focused less on the policy question, and more on whether or not it's a Constitutional mandate via the 14th Amendment. The panelists told the Subcommittee that only with a law passed by Congress could the courts offer an interpretation.

After a week of insisting on a long-term spending bill, House Republican Leaders are reported to be seriously considering a short-term spending bill because of intense pressure from a growing number of their Members who see that as the only way to eventually overturn Pres. Obama's threatened executive amnesty.

Over the weekend, 2012 GOP presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, said that a Republican-controlled Congress would act on immigration in the 114th Congress. What form bills take, however, remains to be seen. While most of the media will be concentrating on the larger picture tonight, like control of the Senate, there are a number of House races that we'll be following closely that could help determine how the 114th Congress may act on the issue, if at all.

Earlier this week, Republican Rep. Iliana Ros-Lehtinen told The Hill that she worries about the GOP's chances of winning the White House in 2016 because the party hasn't backed a mass amnesty for illegal aliens. But a brand new poll from Pew Hispanic Research on the voting tendencies of Hispanic Americans reveals something very different.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
