With men and women dying in the armed services of our country every day, the question of national community loomed large for me this Memorial Day.

Did all those who died in foreign lands this last year, as well as in America near our own borders, accept the possibility of the supreme sacrifice for just some vague concept of a country? For virtually open borders? For a government that only some times puts its citizens' interests ahead of those of citizens of other countries?

"In March, Congressman Bill Sali (R-Idaho) sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urging her to hold off on approving the consulate until the government can assure Idahoans that a consulate will not foster the continued presence of illegal immigrants in the state. Sali, who earlier this month was recognized by the American Conservative Union as one of the "best and brightest" in the U.S.

This brings the total number of discharge petition signers to 189, just 29 shy of the 218 needed to force a floor vote on the bill. Rep. Scalise replaces Rep. At first blush, I'm sure some will find the news of big California ag firms expanding operations in Mexico to be a negative reaction to increased enforcement against illegal immigration.

Look deeper, however, and this is yet more proof that a constant and escalating enforcement will create an attrition in the illegal population in the U.S.  -- and will allow agricultural capitalism to begin to work properly without the distortion of an amnesty.

Attrition Through Enforcement works!

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
