Some House Democrats are having behind-the-scenes discussions about creating a special visa for illegal aliens they believe will enjoy considerable Republican support. Under the plan, illegal aliens who can prove they have jobs and pass a criminal background check will receive the gift of legal status for 5 years. The plan is designed to attract pro-business Republicans and those who backed the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill by also increasing the number of visas issued for technical, temporary and agricultural workers.

NumbersUSA's Roy Beck Assesses Candidates on Immigration Issues

Published:

Tue, Feb 26th 2008 @ 2:55 pm EST

NumbersUSA Founder and CEO Roy Beck has analyzed and ranked all presidential candidates based on the campaign promises they have made and their past actions in elected office. NumbersUSA encourages all candidates to turn away from bad or poor positions of the past, and asks concerned voters to encourage them in working towards "true" immigration reform solutions that don't reward illegal aliens. Per our policy, candidates will be rewarded with improved ratings when they adopt the preferences of the majority of Americans for far less overall immigration.

(Updated on Feb. 29, 2008) Rep. Heath Shuler’s (D-N.C.) SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement [H.R. 4088]) now has 148 bipartisan signers. The SAVE Act will require all employers to use the electronic verification system to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs. NumbersUSA believes that this legislation originating on the Democratic side of the House is just the vehicle to give us a chance to actually pass immigration legislation through a Democratic-controlled Congress that would significantly improve the lives of most Americans.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
