Another Va. City To Check Immigration Status

Following in the footsteps of Prince William County, Va., all persons arrested for violations of local or State law by the Manassas Police Department will have their immigration status checked beginning on Dec. 1. Officers also will be allowed to investigate the status of persons who are "lawfully detained" for local or State violations if they have "probable cause."

Manager of Agriprocessors Plant Arrested for Role in Postville Raid

The former manager of a Postville Agriprocessors plant Sholom Rubashkin was arrested by federal immigration agents on Thursday morning. Rubashkin is the son of the company's owner and faces charges of conspiracy to harbor undocumented immigrants for financial gain, aiding and abetting document fraud and aiding and abetting aggravated identity theft.

Missouri Local Police Arrest 12 Believed to be Illegal Aliens

Earlier this week, police in Cape Girardeau, Mo. arrested 12 people believed to be illegal aliens. The arrests make 51 people since July detained by Cape Girardeau police in an effort to help Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

ICE arrests 19 in Minnesota after three-day operation

Two Immigration and Customs Enforcement teams arrested 19 near Bloomington, Minn. after a three-day initiative. Those arrested were a combination of illegal aliens and illegals that absconded after being ordered to leave the country.

ICE Arrests 384 Illegal Aliens in Multi-State Area

ICE arrested 384 fugitive aliens and immigration violators in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware during an enforcement operation that ran from October 14-26. Criminal histories of the arrestees included convictions for sexual assault, assault, burglary, robbery, bail jumping, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, DUI, DWI, resisting arrest, and trademark counterfeiting.

Economy, Enforcement Reversing Illegal Migratory Trend

At a news conference held last week to detail his agency’s recent achievements, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff discussed how the economy, along with increased enforcement, are reducing the number of inbound illegal aliens and increasing departures home. He cited certain “metrics,” such as fewer illegal-alien apprehensions at the borders, and pointed to illegal-alien population studies as evidence of a reversing migratory trend.

Fraudulent Arizona Prop. 202 Would Enable, Not Stop, Illegal Hiring

An initiative on the Arizona ballot for November 4 – Proposition 202 or the so-called Stop Illegal Hiring Act – does the exact opposite of what it claims. It would gut Arizona's strong employer sanctions law and allow illegal-alien employers to return to "business as usual." Should this state initiative pass, it will have adverse national implications. The group Vote No on Prop. 202 is raising funds to oppose this fraud on the voters.

Period of Stay Increased for NAFTA Workers

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has increased the maximum period of time that a Trade-NAFTA professional worker from Canada or Mexico may remain in the United States. The rule change increases the period of stay from one year to three years, equaling the initial period of time granted to H-1B workers.

ICE Shares $200,000 with Naugatuck Police

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is sharing part of its $1 million award with the Naugatuck Police Department. In April 2007, Jose and Diana Calhelha were sentenced after being convicted for their roles in harboring illegal aliens at their 10 Dunkin Donuts' franchises. The Naugatuck Police Department assisted the ICE with the case.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
