Today, The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit to halt the new regulation put forth by DOJ and DHS. The ACLU, representing four pro-immigration advocacy organizations, argued that President Trump's proposed rule violates federal immigration and regulatory laws. The lawsuit was filed in the Northern District Court of California. As of right now, there is no timeline available as to when this case will be heard, or a decision will be made.

According to a new analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies, immigration between 1990 and 2017 added approximately 43 million people to the population of the United States - including both immigrants and their progeny. However, the study finds that this increase in the total population had a minimal impact on the share of the population that is of working age, as it added to both those inside the working-age population and to those outside in nearly equal proportions.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1044, the Fairness For High-Skilled Immigrants Act, by a 365-to-65 margin. The bill would eliminate per-country caps on employment-based green cards, which have resulted in hundreds of thousands of immigrants—mostly from India and China—facing a decades long wait time to become lawful permanent residents. It also would raise the per-country limit on family-based visas from the current 7% to 15%.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
