In a surprising turn of events, a 2-1 opinion issued over the weekend from a panel on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a nationwide injunction issued by a federal judge, who sided with the city of Los Angeles in its lawsuit over Community Oriented Policing Services grants, which are determined by a point system that takes into account whether the city applying is a sanctuary city.

The Trump Administration is moving forward with a plan to make it more difficult for Central American migrants to take advantage of the present loopholes in the United States immigration system after illegally crossing the southern border. The Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with the Department of Justice released a new rule for migrants who enter the United States.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1044, the Fairness For High-Skilled Immigrants Act, by a 365-to-65 margin. It also would raise the per-country limit on family-based visas from the current 7% to 15%.
