Bob Good -- who filled out NumbersUSA's candidate survey and promised to be a True Reformer on 12 top immigration goals -- has unseated incumbent Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman at the Party's primary convention.

A key issue in Rep. Riggleman's defeat was the charge that he was a close ally of business lobbies in their desire for more foreign workers.

Did all those who died in foreign lands this last year, as well as in America near our own borders, accept the possibility of the supreme sacrifice for just some vague concept of a country?

I'm sure you have heard a bewildering amount of descriptions of what the President's Proclamation will do to the number of permanent immigrants and temporary foreign workers coming into the country the next few months.

Let's walk calmly through the details.

With tens of millions of Americans who want to work fulltime unable to do so, most immigration at this moment makes no sense, and the President appears to be moving in the right direction to curtail it.

Pres. Trump's Tweet a few hours ago indicates a sensitivity to a primary purpose of immigration laws of every country, and that is to protect a nation's vulnerable workers from harmful competition. To continue most immigration at this time would show a callous disregard for those Americans who are enduring deep economic suffering.

The nation's meat supply chain is threatened by meatpacking plant shutdowns due to Covid-19 outbreaks among employees. But the Costco plant in Freemont, Nebraska has thus far had only one employee confirmed with the virus (according to MeatPoultry.com) and is humming at full speed.

The nation's ability to survive the Covid-19 pandemic does not depend on continuing the DACA amnesty, despite a major attempt to suggest otherwise in the elite East Coast media this week.

As always, the numbers in the debate have to be put in context.

Does anything reveal more about the ugly strain of American arrogance and entitlement than calls by immigration enthusiasts to use the pandemic as an excuse to further raid the health professionals of underdeveloped countries?

Many nations around the world already have a large percentage of their doctors working in U.S. hospitals instead of helping the woefully underserved populations of their homelands. As a matter of international ethics, let's stop using our immigration system to wave around wads of cash to deny the world's poor their doctors and nurses.

Two of the seven GOP Senate candidates in Alabama's Primary this week ran on immigration-reduction platforms after having earned career A+ NumbersUSA grades for their work in Congress.

Together, the two won 58% of the votes on Tuesday (31.7% by Jeff Sessions and 24.9% by Bradley Byrne). Sessions and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville (who won 33.4%) will compete in a March 31 runoff election.

It is hard to distinguish oneself among so many Presidential aspirants when everybody is rushing in the same direction. Beto O'Rourke tried but couldn't attract enough funding, dropping out of the race today.

Beto tried to beat his competition by advocating for the most leniency toward illegal immigration and for the most foreign workers to help business owners. (Take a look at his positions below.)

But Elizabeth Warren matched his nearly open-borders enthusiasm, and most of the rest of the candidates came very close.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
