“The public, while having some sympathy for some amnesty under all those very tough conditions, isn’t interested at all in increasing immigration and increasing the level of foreign workers,” said Roy Beck, the executive director of NumbersUSA.

“The business community has put hundreds of millions of dollars into trying to get these immigration increases through because it really goes against the basic thoughts and nature of the American voters,” he added.

"We are motivating our grass-roots activists in Utah to attend town hall meetings. We are also asking them to urge their members to hold town meetings," said Chris Chmielenski, the activism director for NumbersUSA, an immigration-reduction organization, noting that Rep. Jim Matheson and Sen. Orrin Hatch have not scheduled any.

"We're afraid that members of Congress are hearing a lot from a few groups with a loud voice, but aren't hearing from the people they are actually supposed to represent in Washington.

Event coordinator, Roy Beck of NumbersUSA, made a point of saying that the rally spot was chosen because Cantor needed to hear from the "wage earners" who Beck said would be harmed by comprehensive immigration reform.

“We’ve got to make sure that Eric Cantor pays attention to the wage earners — that's why we're here looking over his district as we talk tonight,” Beck said.

“Don’t go into the trap. If you do go into the trap, what you’re going to do is to turn your back to millions of Americans,” said Roy Beck, the executive director of NumbersUSA, a group that favors reduced immigration and one of the leaders of Monday’s rally. “Focus on putting these people back to work, not making them compete with more foreign workers.”

Many of the group's foot soldiers are dismayed by the House GOP leaders' seeming willingness to consider a compromise on immigration. Beck says his troops will try to persuade rank-and-file Republicans not to follow their leaders on this issue.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
