Sanctuary policies directly violate Federal law. Section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) provides that

Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.

The visa lottery program presents a national security threat.

Under the program, each successful applicant is chosen at random and given the status of permanent resident based on pure luck. A perfect example of the system gone awry is the case of Hesham Mohamed Ali Hedayet, the Egyptian national who killed two and wounded three during a shooting spree at Los Angeles International Airport in July of 2002. He was allowed to apply for lawful permanent resident status in 1997 because of his wife’s status as a visa lottery winner.

On May 26, 2010 the Supreme Court decided 5-to-3 that states can punish employers who violate a mandatory E-Verify law. The court challenge was led by the U.S. Chamber of Congress against Arizona's 2007 law that suspends a business's license if they don't use E-Verify to check the eligibility of all new hires.

Some of the devastating environmental impacts of illegal immigration through these protected areas include:

The Park Service has closed the ohono O'odham Indian Reservation, Organ Pipe National Monument, and Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge due to the "unacceptable level of risk to the public and staff" from the "high level of illegal activity going on."

Refugees vs. Economic Migrants

An economic migrant moves in order to improve his life; a refugee moves in order to save his life, specifically out of fear from State persecution.

Refugees make up a relatively small percentage of annual immigration to the U.S. (see Rosemary Jenks' chart). Most immigrants (including most illegal immigrants) are economic migrants; relatively poor by our standards, but not facing life or death situations.

Many pro-amnesty advocates claim that "comprehensive immigration reform" is the "civil rights test of our generation."

NumbersUSA contents that there is little comparison between the struggle of descendants of American slaves to gain equal standing and the desire of illegal aliens to be rewarded for breaking immigration laws.

Immigration reform in August: Why now?

Published:  Mon, Aug 22nd 2011 @ 10:12 am EDT

Washington (CNN) -- It's late August. Would you rather hit the beach or discuss immigration reform?

The White House seems to be betting on the former, slipping out news of a major shift in the federal government's approach to illegal immigrants at a time when most Americans traditionally hit the road for summer vacation.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
