Last week’s headlines announcing the perceived “snub” of Rep. Steve King for Chair of the Immigration Subcommittee were filled with the kind of rhetoric that those of us who favor lower immigration levels have gotten used to. But in the vilification of Steve King, some in the mainstream media and pro-amnesty groups failed to recognize the stellar 24-year immigration record of the new chairman, Rep. Elton Gallegly.

A compelling story came across the news wires earlier this week about the student body president at Fresno State University. Pedro Ramirez moved to California when he was 3-years-old and has known nothing but life in America. But during his senior year in high school, the valedictorian's parents dropped a bombshell, telling him he was an illegal alien.

Back in February, we began the giant task of sending out our Immigration-Reduction Survey to more than 1,500 Congressional candidates. We received about 500 completed surveys, and for Tuesday's mid-term elections, 157 Congressional races across the country had at least one candidate who completed a survey. Over the nine month period, our Survey and Candidate Comparison pages received lots of media coverage, including a post-election column written by Mark Krikorian for the National Review.

On Wednesday, Roy’s 2010 update to his Immigration Gumballs video -- “Immigration, World Poverty and Gumballs” -- reached 100,000 views. It’s now up to 116,352. While that number doesn’t come close to our desire to eventually have millions viewing, it’s a pretty significant milestone after being publicly posted for only one week -- especially compared to some other YouTube postings.

Comedy Central Comedian Stephen Colbert testified before the House Immigration Subcommittee on Friday morning on behalf of illegal migrant workers. While Colbert and two other pro-Amnesty panelists presented a sympathetic case for legalization of illegal migrant workers, their testimony also exposed the major flaws with the AgJOBS Amnesty proposal.

Over the past two weeks, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have called their respective chambers back to Washington from the summer recess to pass a $600 million border-spending bill. DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano decreed the border secure with the supplemental funding, but a new video released by the Center for Immigration Studies shows quite a different reality.

SAVE Act and CLEAR Act Can Overturn Judge Bolton's Decision on Arizona Immigration Enforcement Law

Federal Judge Susan Bolton ordered an injunction today of Arizona’s immigration enforcement law, formerly known as SB1070, just hours before it’s scheduled to take effect. Supporters of immigration enforcement are angry and frustrated over the ruling, but there is hope in the halls of Congress – of all places. If Congress passed the SAVE Act and CLEAR Act, these two bills together would secure the border, mandate E-Verify nationwide, and provide local law enforcement officials with the tools to help federal officials enforce immigration laws obviating the need for SB1070.

The newly formed Pro-Amnesty business coalition, Partnership for a New American Economy, has one goal in mind – providing an Amnesty to the nation’s 11-18 million illegal aliens. The coalition has individuals from all across the country from a variety of different business backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common. They make a ton of money and are completely out of touch with Main Street Americans. NumbersUSA Members have voiced their frustrations!

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
