RAISE Act Reintroduced in Senate, Introduced in House

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), David Perdue (R-Ga.), and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced the RAISE Act in the Senate. This is the same bill Sens. Cotton and Perdue introduced last Congress that would eliminate the visa lottery and chain migration, and would make employment visas merit-based. Rep. Rooney (R-Fla.) introduced a companion bill in the House.

ICE Arrests Nearly 300 Illegal Workers at Dallas Company

ICE agents arrested nearly 300 unauthorized workers on at an electronics company in Allen, Texas north of Dallas on Wednesday. This is ICE's largest single worksite enforcement operation in a decade.

Quinnipiac: Voters in New York Oppose Drivers' Licenses for Illegal Aliens

A Quinnipiac poll found strong opposition to issuing drivers' licenses to illegal aliens among New York State voters. Voters in the state opposed this policy 57% to 37%.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told an audience at George Washington University this week that Border Patrol was on pace to apprehend 100,000 illegal aliens at the southern border in the month of March.

Council of Economic Advisors Undermines Employer Claims of Worker Shortage in U.S.

With the economy improving and the labor market tightening, employers have ratcheted up their call for an increase in foreign labor. President Trump has even said that there are not enough workers to fill open jobs. The President's own Council of Economic Advisors makes clear in its latest report that there are still many Americans on the sidelines who are available to work.

Dr. Mark Thies, a professor of chemical and biochemical engineering at Clemson University, published an op-ed calling for mandatory E-Verify. Thies makes the case that the President should follow up on the decision by the Trump Organization to use E-Verify at all its properties with a push to make it mandatory for all U.S. employers.

CIS Releases New Population Projections Based on Census Bureau Data

Based on Census Bureau assumptions about immigration levels through 2060, the Center for Immigration Studies projected the U.S. population based on various immigration scenarios. One thing CIS revealed is that immigration does little to increase the proportion of the working-age population (16-64).

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, along with Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) have introduced the Fix the Immigration Loopholes Act in order “to protect minors and asylum seekers, while reducing fraud at the southern border.”

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
