Yesterday, the Florida state legislature passed SB 168, a bill that would prohibit local governments from adopting illegal-alien sanctuary policies and ensure that criminal aliens are not released into local communities. It now heads to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had asked the legislature to pass anti-sanctuary legislation. Thanking the legislature for delivering, he said, "Local law enforcement agencies can and should work with the federal government to ensure that accountability and justice are one in our state."

A group of House Democrats wrote the Social Security Administration (SSA) demanding the retraction of an order that reinstated Employer Correction Request Notices, also known as “no-match” letters. The letters inform employers that information reported on an employee’s W-2 form does not match SSA’s records. While the letters are intended to give employers a chance to clear up typos in an employee’s name or Social Security number, they also expose instances of illegal aliens using fake IDs or stolen identities to get a job.

A Migration Policy Institute study found that 125,000 illegal aliens reach the age of 18 each year, and 98,000 graduate high school. When MPI last studied the so-called “Dreamer” population in 2003, 80,000 reached the age of 18 each year and 98,000 graduated high school each year. Congress is considering two bills that would legalize illegal-alien graduates who meet certain residency and other requirements.

The Washington Examiner reports the federal government is utilizing a DNA testing system that would help Border Patrol Agents quickly check whether those crossing the border as a family are in fact related. Agents now rely on documents the individuals carry and interrogation to verify familial relationships. But workload pressures from the huge increase in family asylum seekers make this already problematic method unworkable.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
