Speaker Ryan Says No DACA Amnesty in FY19 Spending Bill

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that an amnesty for DACA recipients would not be included in the year-end spending bill for fiscal year 2019. He explained that a federal court's ruling, which halted the Trump Administration's effort to end the DACA amnesty program, removed the deadline that had previously served as a motivation for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to find a legislative solution.

DHS Issues Guidance to Strengthen Credible Fear Standard

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued guidance on Wednesday, instructing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers to tighten up asylum requirements by only granting asylum to foreign nationals who can prove that they are the victims of government-sanctioned persecution.

USCIS Approved More Than 20,000 New DACA Applications Since Pres. Trump's EO

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced Thursday that it approved 20,572 new DACA applicants between October 2017 and June 2018 in addition to already having renewed status for 185,086 DACA beneficiaries.

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wisc.) is drafting legislation that would abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). So far, the proposal is backed by Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), and Mike Capuano (D-Mass.).

NC Landscaping Company Fined for Discriminating Against American Workers

The Justice Dept. announced yesterday that it settled an agreement with Triple H Services LLC, a North Carolina landscaping company, after a finding that it violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by discriminating against American workers. This is the second settlement to resolve a lawsuit based on Pres. Trump's 'Buy American, Hire American' executive order.

Sen. Grassley & Rep. Smith: E-Verify is 'the most effective tool' to Combat Illegal Immigration

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) stated in an op-ed, published today by Bloomberg, that requiring mandatory use of E-Verify for all employers would protect American workers and reduce fraud by helping businesses ensure that all new hires are legal to work in the United States.

Former DHS Sec. Jeh Johnson: 'We can't have catch and release'

Former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson, who led the Department of Homeland Security during the second half of the Obama Administration, said in a Fox News interview Sunday that the U.S. government must end catch-and-release on the border. Additionally, he said that the Trump Admin. should expand family detention centers like the previous administration did.

Poll: More Americans Support Zero Tolerance Policy Than Catch & Release

The Economist and YouGov recently released a poll conducted June 17 through 19,revealing that there is a plurality of support among American voters -- 46% -- for a 'zero tolerance' policy regarding the arrest and detention of all illegal crossings. Additionally, a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 American likely voters, conducted June 19 and 20, showed that 54% of likely voters believe parents who illegally enter the country with their children are more to blame for the arrest and separation of families. Only 35% blame the federal government for enforcing immigration law, and 11% are undecided.

Sec. Nielsen: DHS will Continue to Enforce Immigration Laws

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen urged Congress to close the loopholes in the immigration system during the White House Press Briefing on Monday. Additionally, she presented current statistics pertaining to illegal immigration on the southern border and stated that DHS will continue to prosecute those who attempt to illegally enter the U.S.

DACA Amnesty Granted to Criminal Illegal Aliens

Recent data, released today by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), revealed that the government granted amnesty to 53,000 illegal aliens -- 7% of all DACA recipients -- with existing criminal convictions under Pres. Obama's DACA executive amnesty. Of those criminal aliens approved for DACA, 10 were granted status despite being arrested for murder.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
