Today I heard a word from my distant past that no longer is applicable to our society - assimilation. An immigration-reduction activist said we should cut off immigration completely and allow "assimilation to work." Well, good luck with that because given that we live in a multicultural country, into which culture is one supposed to assimilate?

Wisconsin's Recent Response to Population Growth Ignores Immigration Impact

Wisconsin appears to be on the verge of joining 17 other states that allow motorists to drive on highway shoulders in order to reduce congestion during peak travel times. This "solution" reminds me of the story about the guy who came home to discover that he left the water running in a sink and attacks the problem with a mop and bucket instead of shutting off the water, in this case the "water" being population growth that is 88 percent fueled by immigration.

Much has been written recently about the dismal unemployment rate (13 percent) among returning veterans, and a recent Washington Times story notes that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who for years has had a soft spot for illegal aliens, has initiated a drive designed to help returning service members and their spouses find jobs. But at the same time, Chamber President Thomas Donahue supported making illegal aliens living in the U.S. "official".

Arizona's new law, Senate Bill 1070, aimed at removing illegal immigrants from that state is being called all the wrong things by the mainstream media and those portraying themselves as the champions of "immigrant rights."

Obama’s stance on energy/environment doesn't jibe with his immigration goals

The president has talked a lot since taking office about creating new energy guidelines, and the White House paid the usual lip service to Earth Day. But I’m wondering: How does this president square his energy and environmental concerns with his apparent willingness to continue fueling our population growth with a reckless immigration policy that benefits only vote-hungry politicians and companies fearful of losing their abundant supply of cheap foreign labor?

Disgraced Illinois governor never met an illegal alien he didn't like

The latest estimates show that more than 600,000 illegal aliens are living on the backs of Illinois taxpayers. And Gov. Rod Blagojevich did everything he could to make them feel more at home in the Prairie State. From in-state tuition to driver's licenses, Blago tried to assimilate illegal aliens into the state he governed.

NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation provides a civil forum for Americans of all political and ethnic backgrounds to focus on a single issue, the numerical level of U.S. immigration. We educate opinion leaders, policymakers and the public on immigration legislation, policies and their consequences. We favor reductions in immigration numbers toward traditional levels that would allow present and future generations of Americans to enjoy a stabilizing U.S. population and a high degree of individual liberty, mobility, environmental quality, worker fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Those who need to refer to NumbersUSA with a short, descriptive modifier should call it an “immigration-reduction organization.”
