This summer, thousands of families and unaccompanied minors who entered the country illegally were released to sponsor families with an immigration court hearing date and a promise to appear. However, newly released documents reveal a staggering number of illegal aliens are failing to appear for their hearings.

According to documents from the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR), obtained by Breitbart News, between July 18 and October 7, immigration judges across the country rendered 3,885 decisions on removal cases for aliens in family units. Of those decisions, 94% (3,661) were made "in absentia", or the alien's failure to appear resulted in an order for removal.

During the same period of time, 1,229 unaccompanied minors were ordered to be removed. Of the 1,229 cases, 93% (1,148) were made in absentia.

The EOIR data comes a little over a month after the Associated Press reported that the percentage of family units who failed to report back to immigration agents was at 70%.
