Federal Contractors That Knowingly Hired Illegal Aliens May Be Debarred

Seven companies previously found to have knowingly hired illegal aliens are being considered for debarment from federal contracting, according  to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement news release. Although ICE has not previously used the debarment option, it is now seen as a potentially useful tool for protecting law-abiding businesses from unfair competition.

Immigration Decreased in 2007

America's economic downturn and increased immigration enforcement has caused the number of immigrants entering the United States to drop significantly. According to new Census Bureau estimates, only 500,000 immigrants came to the United States in 2007 -- a marked decrease over 2006's total of 1.8 million.

Calif. Court Says In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens Violates Constitution

A California court has ruled that a law granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens is unconstitutional and ordered the state to start charging 80,000 out-of-state students the lower in-state rates. This ruling can be used to challenge similar laws in nine other states.
