Today, House Committee Showed Why You Can Never Believe A Congressman Without Verification

Congressmen lie. Congressmen deceive. Congressmen think the voters in their District are either idiots or too apathetic to notice. Today's vote on health care for illegal aliens is such a perfect example. The vote was a farce that will be used by many Congressmen to defend themselves against charges that they promote illegal immigration, when in fact their action today just encouraged more of it.

Even as U.S. House Leaders indicate that illegal aliens are their No. 1 priority, I'm feeling moderately optimistic after our loss in a key House committee Thursday. Here's the good news: Republicans (who until recently were somewhat evenly divided on immigration issues) are voting nearly unanimously with us over this summer. And more and more Democrats are splitting from their Party Leaders as constituents back home make it clear where they stand.

House Committee Votes Against Preventing Health Care Benefits to Illegal Aliens

Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) offered an amendment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee this morning that would explicitly prohibit illegal aliens from receiving health care benefits under the health care reform bill (H.R. 3200). The amendment was narrowly defeated 28-to-29 after two Blue Dog Democrats on the committee voted against the amendment.

Senate Committee Passes PASS ID

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee passed the PASS ID Act earlier today through a voice vote. The bill would replace the 2005 REAL ID bill, which many state and federal officials say is too expensive to adhere to. PASS ID, however, would reduce many of the safety precautions included in REAL ID as recommended by the 9/11 Commission.
