Rep. Steve King Calls for Immigration Enforcement to Protect America’s Unemployed

author Published by Chris Chmielenski

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who also serves on the House Immigration Subcommittee, responded to Thursday’s immigration reform meeting at the White House by calling for more immigration enforcement. Rep. King also joined the recently formed Reclaim American Jobs Caucus.

“If President Obama is serious about addressing the immigration issue, he needs to focus on the millions of Americans who are out of work or worried about losing their jobs,” said Rep. King. “This is the time for the Obama administration to accelerate enforcement of immigration laws to make room for unemployed Americans — not grant amnesty.”

Pres. Obama hosted members of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus, members of the pro-amnesty, open-borders lobby, and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at the White House on Thursday to discuss progress on a bi-partisan mass amnesty bill. The different meetings discussed ways to develop new enforcement methods, but the Obama administration has done little to enforce existing laws. Since taking office, Pres. Obama has put an end to the No-Match program and worksite enforcement actions aimed at the 8 million illegal aliens in the U.S. workforce.

With 25 million Americans looking for full-time work, the Reclaim American Jobs Caucus, created by Reps. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) and Gary Miller (R-Calif.) is focused on the enforcement of current immigration laws to help unemployed Americans get back to work.
