Updated:

Last night, the House unanimously approved a resolution that lists the remaining amendments to H.R.1 that will receive consideration. Three of the four immigration-related amendments will not come up for a vote, but Rep. Ted Poe's amendment to prevent funding to the Department of Justice to be used in the lawsuit against Arizona will receive a vote. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and urge your House Rep to support this amendment. Click here for a full description of the amendments that were under consideration and our position on each.

Amendment that will receive a vote:

  • No. 199 by Rep. Poe of Texas to ban the Justice Department from using funds to sue Arizona over immigration laws. This amendment would force the Obama Administration to withdraw its immigration-related lawsuits against Arizona. NumbersUSA supports a YES vote on this amendment.

Amendments that will NOT receive a vote:

  • No. 225 by Rep. Goodlatte of Virginia to ban the State Department from using funds to carry out the Visa Lottery. This amendment would essentially kill the Visa Lottery for one year. NumbersUSA supports a YES vote on this amendment.
  • (UPDATE 3:55pm -- Rep. Price will NOT offer this amendment) No. 277 by Rep. Price of North Carolina to ban funding for REAL ID. This would slow down the move nationwide for secure drivers licenses that are kept out of the hands of illegal aliens and potential terrorists. NumbersUSA supports a NO vote on this amendment.
  • (UPDATE 12:20am -- Rep. Polis will NOT offer this amendment) No. 188 by Rep. Polis of Colorado to cap the number of beds for illegal aliens in detention. This would limit the number of arrests, detentions, and deportations of illegal aliens. NumbersUSA supports a NO vote on this amendment.
