Mandate E-Verify-plus
  • Gov. Huckabee has not addressed the use of E-Verify since his 2008 presidential run when he promised to mandate its use. Huckabee must address this issue in the coming months to improve his grade.

Prevent illegal border entries & surges
  • In July 2015, Gov. Huckabee pledged to secure the border in his first year in office. "I pledge that as president within the first year of my term as president, we will secure the border. If that sounds a little bold or brash, it’s based on our own history – 73 years ago we built a 1700 mile road between British Columbia and Alaska … 73 years later to say that we can’t secure the border is nonsense. We can if we have the will. Americans don’t have animosity toward people wanting to immigrate here… but there’s a difference between having secure borders and opening the door for people who want to come and make America great and opening the door for people who want to come and hurt America and hurt Americans." • While Gov. Huckabee's 9-point immigration plan from his 2008 presidential campaign included the completion of a border fence, in June 2013, he indicated that he was open to the Gang of Eight's amnesty: "I'd say [I'm] probably [on] the Rubio, Corker, Hoeven [side]." The Gang of Eight's amnesty bill weakened border security by reducing the amount of fencing that is required under current law and changing the definition of operational control from 100% awareness to 90% awareness. Implement Interior Enforcement

Finish entry-exit system to track visa overstays
  • Gov. Huckabee, as part of his 9-point immigration plan while running for the presidency in 2008, called for "[ending] exemptions for Mexicans and Canadians to the US-VISIT program, which tracks the arrival and departure of foreign visitors. Since these countries account for the vast majority of foreigners coming here (85 percent), such a policy clearly violates Congress' intent in mandating this check-in/check-out system." We have not found where Huckabee has supported the implementation of an entry/exit system since 2008 and his 9-point plan did not specifically call for a biometric entry/exit system. End automatic birthright citizenship

Oppose work permits for illegal immigrants
  • In a Nov. 2015 interview with Newsmax Huckabee lamented the Republican-led House has never intervened in Obama’s “unconstitutional” actions. “And I hold the Republican Congress responsible and accountable,” Huckabee said. “It’s time for them to step up, and if they have to cut the funding out of the White House and simply not appropriate funds for him to function, they have the power of the purse, they simply need to start exercising it.” Source: https://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/mike-huckabee-begs-congress-defund-the-presidency-to-stop-obama-from-destroying-the-constitution/
  • Gov. Huckabee has sent mixed messages on the issue of granting amnesty to illegal aliens. While a candidate for president in 2008, he took the NumbersUSA "No Amnesty" pledge. He has also said that he would repeal Pres. Obama's executive amnesites, but in 2013, he suggested that he would support the Gang of 8 amnesty bill.
  • Gov. Huckabee offers a "NO Amnesty" pledge on his campaign website. The pledge reads, "I will oppose amnesty and government benefits for illegal immigrants who violated our laws, repeal President Obama's unconstitutional executive orders, and secure our borders." • In April 2015, Gov. Huckabee came out against President Obama's decision to unilaterally amnesty and grant work permits to illegal aliens: "If you're rewarding people who play outside the rules, and punish people who live within the rules, pretty soon nobody is going to play by the rules." • During an appearance on radio show American Heartland with Dr. Grace in July 2015, Gov. Huckabee continued to send mixed messages on amnesty. "We’ve got to repeal Obama’s unconstitutional executive orders, oppose amnesty, and secure the border. You don’t punish people for living by the rules. If you’re rewarding people who play outside the rules, and punish people who live within the rules, pretty soon nobody is going to play by the rules. By securing the border and protecting American workers and their livelihoods, we’ll finally help every American earn his or her maximum wage.” Source: http://jezebel.com/mike-huckabee-donald-trump-isnt-racist-just-a-plain-s-1717730176
  • During a July 2015 interview with Newsmax, Gov. Huckabee said the country needs to secure the border before it can address11 million illegal aliens. "Nothing else matters. Step one is to secure the border. People don't take our laws seriously because we don't enforce them, and we don't enforce laws if we don't enforce a border. Step one: Enforce that border. Step two: If people break the law once they are here, there should be no question about the consequences of that. They should have to go home." Support overall reduction in annual immigration

End chain migration
  • During his 2008 presidential run, Gov. Huckabee supported ending chain migration as part of his 9-point immigration plan.  He has not addressed the issue since.

Protect against unfair work-visa competition
  • In an Oct. 2015 interview with Breitbart News Gov. Huckabee argued that what happened to the Disney workers wasn’t because their work was inferior “because the work they brought in from the H-1B was not up to the quality of the people who are veteran Disney employees, but it was because it was cheap labor.” He said the H-1B visas import cheap labor but are taking jobs away from Americans. “I don’t know why anyone would want to displace high-tech workers in America to bring somebody from overseas and basically just chop the legs out from under the American worker,” he said. “I think it’s the opposite of what we should be doing.” Source: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/10/30/exclusive-mike-huckabee-on-factory-floor-huge-mistake-to-displace-american-workers-with-h1b-visa-hires/
  • In a June 2015 interview with Breitbart.com, Gov. Huckabee expressed concern with H-1B visas and connected immigration to workers. "When people come and take a job that an American has trained for—I mean, recently, we had numerous testimonials of people who in the high-tech sector were actually having and forced to train their replacements who were imported workers who were coming in and making less than half of what they were being paid. Now, in a world of supply and demand that’s one thing. But when companies are undercutting an American worker just so they can increase their profits without regard to the people who made them profitable in the first place, that’s not a money issue. That’s a moral issue." Source: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/06/01/huckabee-promotes-american-workers-slams-h1b-visa-fraud-and-abuse-by-tech-companies/
  • During his 2007 presidential run, Gov Huckabee released a 9-point immigration plan that increased foreign worker visas. However, recently Gov. Huckabee attacked President Obama's executive amnesty plan would "flood our country with cheap labor, which will make it even harder for an American family to stay afloat, much less get ahead." End visa lottery
  • Gov. Huckabee supported ending the visa lottery as part of his 9-point immigration plan from his 2008 presidential run. We have not found evidence of him addressing this topic since.
