Mandate E-Verify-plus
  • Sen. Webb showed some support for requiring businesses to verify the employment eligibility of new hires during his Senate run and helped to extend the program for five years in a 2009 Senate vote, bucking his party in the process.

Prevent illegal border entries & surges

Implement Congress-mandated enforcement & disincentives
  • Sen. Webb voted three times against defunding sanctuary cities, voted against defunding the Justice Department's lawsuit against Arizona's SB 1070 law, but did vote prevent illegal aliens getting credit cards.

Finish entry-exit system to track visa overstays
  • We have not been able to ascertain Sen. Webb's position on visa overstayers and implementing a biometric entry/exit system.  Furthermore, Webb took no action while in the Senate to ensure the implementation of such a system.

End automatic birthright citizenship
  • We have not found any examples of Sen. Webb discussing birthright citizenship.

Oppose work permits for illegal immigrants
  • Sen. Webb had a mixed record on amnesty and work permits while a member of the U.S. Senate. However, Webb did go against his party and was instrumental in killing the 2007 amnesty legislation. We have not found evidence of Webb speaking about granting work permits to illegal aliens.
  • In June 2015, Sen. Webb continued to take a noncommittal position on amnesty. According to the Baltimore Sun, "Webb hedged on a series of questions about President Barack Obama's decision last year to delay deportation of some immigrants. Asked whether he supported the effort, now tied up in federal court, Webb instead discussed the broader immigration debate. Asked for clarification, Webb said he thought Obama's actions were legal but isn't sure if he would continue them." Support overall reduction in annual immigration
  • Sen. Webb has not addressed overall immigration numbers, despite talking about other areas of immigration policy.

End chain migration
  • During his time in the Senate, Sen. Webb did not take action on chain migration and has not addressed it since leaving office.

Protect against unfair work-visa competition
  • While in the Senate, Sen. Webb voted consistently to protect American workers from high levels of foreign workers, including opposing the 2007 amnesty bill. Sen. Webb also supported efforts to ensure American workers are hired before foreign workers and supported efforts to reduce foreign worker levels. We cannot find evidence that Sen. Webb has talked about this subject since leaving office.

End visa lottery
  • Sen. Webb failed to address the visa lottery while a member of the Senate and we have been unable to find any statements he has made on the issue.
